#WeDreamBigger at the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at UNL. The new home for creative pioneers!
关于我们
The Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts is a $57 million investment by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln that will be focused on interdisciplinary learning, creativity and research in emerging media located within the Johnny Carson School for Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. It is made possible by a recent $20 million investment by the Johnny Carson Foundation. The Johnny Carson Center will be an internationally distinct program in film and emerging media that explores the boundaries of where cinematic narrative and storytelling intersects with science, the humanities, computer science, engineering, music, fine arts and other disciplines. The Johnny Carson Center will create new opportunities for students to expand their knowledge of today’s emerging media art forms that are positioned at the intersection of film, design, computational technologies and commerce. Graduates who complete coursework in the program will be prepared with media arts skills that can be used in various professions, including filmmaking, game design, television production, theater, advertising, social media, business, architecture, science, education and agriculture, among others. Students begin classes this fall!

Meet one of the faces behind the new UNL commercial featuring the voice of Johnny Carson ('49) ??? As far as campus jobs go, working on the set of a professional commercial production was a pretty ideal situation for Abi. A video intern with the Office of Communication and Marketing, Abi recorded on-set sound and created post-production VFX for UNL’s new national TV spot, an experience that helped complement her work in Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts and gave her a vision of working as a creative professional after graduation. “Working on set for the TV spot was a completely different ballgame from what I’m used to,” says Abi of the production, which was led by UNL staff and Carson School alums. “We were working with professionals from LA that were students here once, too. Seeing that progression from where I’m at to where they are was amazing.” Coming to UNL with a passion for graphic design, Abi was looking to grow in her video and filmmaking knowledge. Seeking experience, she went out on a limb in applying to join the video team in University Communications. “I didn’t know a ton about videography when I started working,” she admits. “It’s been so hands-on — way more than I expected — and I’ve learned so much, not just about the equipment and editing, but also about making stylistic choices.” In addition to helping record the on-set sound that’s present throughout the commercial, Abi also created visual effects for a complex shot involving a moving car and lots of extras. “I really love having my hands in a little bit of everything. I think a big strength for creatives in general is being creatively multilingual, and having knowledge of different jobs can help you communicate with everyone more effectively.” Looking beyond her senior year, Abi also feels emboldened by seeing Husker alums thrive in the professional world. “Working on set with people who started here at Nebraska and seeing the growth of their creative careers is really awesome — it's evidence that this program really does set you up for success to do what you want to do, whether it's in Lincoln or in Omaha or Chicago or LA or New York or London or anywhere.” … Abi Trembly is a senior emerging media arts student from York, PA. #ImAHusker

Join us for this Ignite Colloquium featuring UNL professor and filmmaker Rick Endacott to discuss his recent short film “Turn Over.” “Turn Over” centers around an antique tractor and the conflict it provokes between two brothers. The film explores what it means to be part of a family, a community, and a global world, as well as highlighting the difficulties modern farmers face. Endacott’s screenplay has won numerous awards including Best Short Screenplay at the Skiptown Playhouse International Film Festival in Hollywood, California, Best Short Script at the Snake Alley Festival of Film in Burlington, Iowa, and Best Short Script in the Copa Shorts Film Festival in Maricopa, Arizona, among many other recognitions. “Turn Over” was produced with the help of Emerging Media Arts students, UNL faculty, and local film professionals. When I say my major is Emerging Media Arts (EMA), a lot of people ask “what does that mean?” To me, EMA is the intersection of art and technology, understanding how they both benefit society and how they can be combined to produce new mediums and experiences. Not only does EMA expose me to a wide variety of material, but it also gives me a lot of hands-on learning opportunities. Abigail Trembly’s video showcasing Elliot/Iris Starlin-Hintz and Kaden Garcia’s personal experiences gives further insight. Check it out! ?? #emergingmedia #newideas #studentwork
Loved editing this video about the Emerging Media Arts Program (my major!) at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Kaeden, and Elliot! So happy that I get to use the skills I learn both in my work at UComm and my classes at the Carson Center interchangeably in projects like this. Excited to get back to the center in just under a week! https://lnkd.in/egJfESch #videoeditor #studentvideoeditor #universityofnebraskalincoln #unl #johnnycarsoncenterforemergingmediaarts #emergingmediaarts #hixsonliedschool

I recently completed an eight week internship with Infosys / Infosys InStep in Bangalore, India. During this experience, I collaborated with Hannah Gish, Ellie Kripal, and Zoey Punteney to create media for the Marketing and Communications teams. I am thankful for the guidance of Kisha Gupta, whose guidance helped us stay creatively authentic while working in a unique and fast-paced setting. It was a truly unforgettable time, and I met so many amazing employees and interns who all contributed to an energized environment. Thank you to Dnyanavi Karopady and the entire Instep team for organizing a memorable experience. Also, thank you to Megan Elliott for connecting students at the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with these opportunities. I’m excited to see how Infosys and Nebraska will continue to grow together!
