I sincerely hope that we can address the root cause of what is causing such extreme dissatisfaction in the nursing profession. It is a systemic issue and when the blame gets placed on nurses it doesn't help the situation at all. We need a healthcare system that is invested in treating healthcare workers with respect and dignity. We need workloads that aren't soul crushing leading to moral injury and burnout. We need employers who value our contributions and care about our well-being. We need a federal and provincial government that invests in our public healthcare system to ensure Canadians have access to healthcare where, and when, they need it. Beyond just infrastructure. Without healthcare workers there is no care. You can build all the hospitals and fill them with furniture but those things don't take care of patients - healthcare workers do. We need improvements in primary care, in community care, in long-term care, and in acute care. It is going to take people at every level of decision making to make the right choices. No more bandaid solutions. We need real change. It's going to take stakeholders at various levels working together for the greater good of safe, quality, patient care.
Nurses, we see you. You’re not “the problem.” Burnout, moral distress, and exhaustion aren’t personal failures, they’re the result of a system that’s been broken for years. Nurses are leaving because they care too much in a system that doesn’t care for them. Instead of blaming nurses for the shortage, let’s talk about the real reasons behind it—and how we can support each other. We all have the same goals when we show up to work: high quality, compassionate care for patients and a workplace where staff feel safe, supported, and have access to the information that they need to make informed decisions. Grateful to Canadian Nurse for allowing us the opportunity to cut through the media chatter and share what the evidence actually tells us about secondhand exposure to fentanyl at work (and how we can address the root causes).
Nurses deserve safe workplaces. Patients deserve dignity. How can we achieve both? This article discusses effective harm reduction strategies: negative pressure rooms, accessible safe use spaces, and better education on actual risks. Let’s advocate for evidence-based policies that promote safety and dignity for all. Read more: https://bit.ly/3CUH825 #HarmReduction #NurseLife #SupportNurses

An important conversation- acknowledging that advancing the nursing profession is deeply intertwined with improved global health outcomes. A prime focus for nurses all around the world needs to be having a seat at the table, where policies are influenced, and where policies are made. Being the largest healthcare force, we have bring awareness to that power and advocate for #moreleadershiproles, #equity and a #seatatthetable
Nurses, you deserve fair pay. You deserve safe workplaces. You deserve more leadership roles. Let's start taking the blame off those who still show up to care for our loved ones and start calling in the structures causing these critical shortages

Long-term care works best when residents and families are active partners in shaping their experience. That’s where resident and family councils come in—giving them a say, a support system, and a way to work with management. If you’re in LTC, understanding these councils is essential.
