What Great Minds Can Do
关于我们
At the Buccino Leadership Institute, we invest in individuals who aren’t just great themselves, but who inspire greatness in others. As an institution, we have a rich legacy of leaders like Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American born saint, who defied tradition and forged a way for those who followed behind. Here, we develop leaders who aren’t afraid to speak truth to power and who serve before they are asked to be served. Their confidence is recognizable and their vision contagious. That’s what it means to be a Seton Hall leader.

This past week, second-year students from the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University had the privilege of participating in an engaging and enlightening session with Frank Diana, Managing Partner and Principal Futurist of Tata Consultancy Services on #Reimagining the Future (https://bit.ly/3JJSIOB).?It was a powerful session that stretched their thinking and challenged them to consider how emerging technologies and global trends could shape not just industries, but every aspect of our global society. The learnings from this discussion are invaluable to our students as they continue to develop their Ideas & Trends project deliverable, an experiential learning exercise focused on how to lead through ambiguity and uncertainty. Thank you, Frank Diana, for sharing your time and wisdom with our students. Thank you, Professor John H. Shannon, for facilitating this unique opportunity and thank you Buccino Leadership Institute second-year students for your vibrant and insightful questions that highlighted the connections you made between future trends and your servant leadership values. I am honored to have been part of this incredible opportunity to witness the future of robotics in health and wellness. Thank you, MARCo Health Inc. and Dr. Juan Rios, LCSW for letting me be a part of this experience. I look forward to what the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University provides for students through this innovative partnership!
After a fantastic presentation at Seton Hall University with the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University, MARCo decided his Halloween costume is going to be a Pirate this year! Thank you to Dr. Juan Rios, LCSW for setting this up and kicking off one of many opportunities to support the mental health, confidence, and resilience of so many students and community members - especially those who are left behind by the current systems. MARCo's already looking forward to his next visit back to campus! #mentalhealth #college #student #studentsupport #ai #artificialintelligence #therapy #socialwork #confidence #leadership #research #resilience

As a new faculty fellow, Jennifer McCarthy brought fresh energy to the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University, where she helped facilitate a simulated networking session for freshman students. The simulation format was selected to create a controlled environment that provided each student with consistent and valuable networking experiences. With 20 embedded participants, including staff and mentors, playing diverse professional roles, the session offered realistic, guided interactions, allowing students to practice essential communication and networking skills in a supportive setting. Following the initial session, Jennifer led a debriefing where students reflected on their performance and discussed the importance of self-awareness and adaptability in networking. This reflection allowed them to identify strengths and areas for improvement, which they applied in a second networking round. Observing students grow in confidence and skill was incredibly rewarding, as these experiences will serve as a foundation for their future leadership journeys. Jennifer's contribution underscored the Buccino Leadership Institute’s commitment to equipping students with the tools needed for meaningful professional engagement and personal development.

First-year leaders from the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University had an incredible experience and insightful lesson on Crisis Leadership at the 911 Memorial & Museum where they heard stories of ordinary people exhibiting extraordinary leadership. Thank you Noah Rauch, Senior Vice President for Education and Public Programs, and Sharaldine Francisco, MA, Assistant Manager of Public and Professional Programs at the 911 National Memorial & Museum for bringing those stories and voices of ordinary heroes to life. A special thank you to Bill Spade, retired FDNY Firefighter, for sharing his story of that horrific day so openly. Thank you for your leadership and helping us to remember those fallen heroes. #BuccinoLeadership #SetonHall #WhatGreatMindsCanDo #Leadership #911Memorial #FDNY #CrisisLeaderhip

Aspiring Financial Professional | Buccino Leadership Institute | Business Analyst | Mathematical Finance & IT Management Major at Seton Hall University
This month, I had the opportunity through the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University to interview retired Senior Managing Director at Prudential Financial, Tony Torre. See a summary of the interview below! ? Mr. Torre spent much of his career heading global acquisitions and divestiture activities. By the end of his tenure, he oversaw over $35 billion in transactions. Recently retired, he has found a passion for mentoring college students and young professionals, guiding them on their career paths. As a father of a BLI graduate and a member of our Advisory Council, Mr. Torre was excited to share his insights on different industry jobs and cultures, as well as advice on how to break into highly desired roles. Finance, of all three industries discussed, holds the largest job market with the most variety in workload, as seen by Mr. Torre. There are advantages and disadvantages to starting out at both small and large firms. Small firms generally provide their interns with more hands-on experience, gaining greater relative technical knowledge. However, their internship programs are likely less structured and organized compared to the latter. Large firms also provide a higher ceiling for growth and increased networking opportunities, some offering full-time positions to their senior interns. His general advice? Freshman/Sophomores should seek out any internship opportunities to gauge their interest in that industry while Juniors/Seniors should look for roles that have clear paths to future positions, typically found at large firms. Investment banking is an incredibly competitive industry. As Mr. Torre put it, the people who work in investment banking have “sharp elbows”. Put simply, the culture is very cut-throat with low job retention rates and high dissatisfaction amongst employees. For those who seek jobs, however, networking is the most valuable tool to find employment. Paving your own path, creating a value proposition that speaks to your own skills and knowledge, is also crucial for making a name for yourself in investment banking. Students should target small – mid sized firms initially and look for places to grow from there. Investment management is for those who can find enjoyment in looking at market news, trends, and financial statements regularly. Mr. Torre personally expressed his bias for the publication Barron's as a source of this information. While he did maintain that the job market for actively managed investment funds (“day trading”) is shrinking, there is a growing field of real estate and private credit that requires similar skills. Becoming a financial advisor is also an option for those who have an interest in investment analysis and strategy. Separately, those seeking high-paying, investment management positions in firms usually have an MBA and/or their CFA certification.
