Some challenges are bigger than one property, one neighborhood, one community or even one state.?#Brownfields conferences are a fantastic way to share information, ideas, and case studies where some of the best in the industry explain how they solved complex problems. MassDEP is an enthusiastic supporter of NORTHEAST WASTE MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS' ASSOCIATION (NEWMOA). Our team joined other agency and industry leaders and professionals from across New England for NEWMOA’s Revitalizing New England Brownfields Summit, in late spring, to share ideas on redeveloping and revitalizing our communities. Here are our key takeaways from this important conference.

It was a great event in Turners Falls to celebrate teamwork and collaboration between the Town of Montague, MA, FRANKLIN REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), MassDEP, MassDevelopment, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. The funding from the US EPA and DCR will be transformative for this historic mill community. The MassDEP Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup is glad to partner with the Town to keep this project moving forward. Thank you to Caprice Gardner Shaw and Mike Gorski for the strong support from MassDEP's Western Regional Office.

On June 11th and 12th, we co-hosted two Brownfields Roundtables: the first was in the City of New Bedford with the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) and the second was in Haverhill with the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission. Both meetings had strong attendance and covered technical resources, funding opportunities, and recent case studies on the redevelopment of brownfield sites. Special thanks to speakers from USEPA Region 1, MassDevelopment and UConn Technical Assistance to Brownfields as well as our cohosts, attendees and MassDEP’s Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup team. Our next roundtable is on June 25th in Fitchburg – see you there! ? #brownfield #brownfields #redevelopment #cleanup #resources #wastesites #communitydevelopment #economicdevelopment
