As part of our work to improve the usefulness of ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program (BAPP), we regularly assess the impact of our publications. The metrics we use are the views, reads, and citation statistics of the various publications. Today, we’re excited to share an update on the citation numbers for BAPP publications. Top Three Most Cited BAPP Publications (Google Scholar, as of November 15, 2024) are: ·????????Foster, S. Large-scale program to educate about and help solving issues related to adulteration of botanicals & dietary supplements
关于我们
The ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program (BAPP) is the largest international consortium focused on reducing adulteration in botanical ingredients used in dietary (food) supplements, conventional foods, cosmetics, and other natural health products. In 2011, three leading nonprofit organizations—the American Botanical Council (ABC), the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP), and the University of Mississippi's National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR)—initiated this large-scale program to educate members of the global herbal and dietary supplement industry about ingredient and product adulteration. BAPP produces six to eight extensively peer-reviewed publications per year, written by experts in various scientific fields, to document adulteration for specific ingredients, and/or to evaluate laboratory test methods to authenticate legitimate ingredients and to detect the potential presence of undeclared adulterants in herbal ingredients and finished dietary supplements.

The SupplySide Stage was the center of a BAPP-initiated discussion last week, diving into the critical issue of adulteration across the food, supplement, cosmetic, and OTC drug supply chains. Huge thanks to Jon Benninger and SupplySide for their endless support to the BAPP Best Practices SOP initiative. We’re also deeply grateful to Taneesha Routier J.D. from XYMOGEN and Tom Dubinski from Arizona Nutritional Supplements (ANS) for sharing their valuable insights and first-hand experiences. Stefan Gafner started the discussion with a short talk on “Adulteration in the global botanical trade: Concerns and solutions,” followed by Michael Levin, who highlighted practical steps in his presentation “Avoid expensive problems! How YOU can help stop the sale of adulterated products, globally”. If you missed it, catch the recording on the SupplySide West YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/dNQh6Jnx You can also download the highlights of the presentation from: https://lnkd.in/d8UG9Ecy #SupplySideWest #BAPP American Botanical Council#adulteration

?????????????? ????????????: ?????????????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????????? ?????????????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????? ???????????????? ???? ???????????????? ?????????????????? ???? ???????????????????? ???????????????? ?????????? ?????????????? European elder (???????????????? ??????????, Viburnaceae) flowers have been traditionally used to address various health concerns and are sold as herbal tea in Türkiye. A recent study evaluated the quality of ten commercial European bulk elder flower products according to the European Pharmacopoeia. The samples, nine purchased from herbalists or online retailers and one from an organic farm, underwent morphological and microscopical analysis. The foreign matter, loss on drying, and total ash contents were determined and thin layer chromatography (TLC) was used to compare the fingerprints of the samples. Additionally, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was employed to quantify the key phenolic compounds, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, hyperoside, and rutin. Key findings: ·????????Microscopic analysis revealed the presence of foreign elements (e.g., multicellular trichomes, dwarf elder?[???????????????? ????????????] pollens, and sclerenchyma bundles) in half of the samples. ·????????All samples met the standards for total ash content and loss on drying. ·????????Two samples exceeded the allowable percentage of brown flowers (>15%) indicating poor drying conditions, and six contained foreign matter above the 8% limit. ·????????Chlorogenic acid was detected in all samples. However, one sample lacked rutin, two lacked hyperoside, and six lacked caffeic acid. Ultimately, none of the samples fully complied with the European Pharmacopoeia monograph for European elder flowers. This highlights the need for stricter quality control in the herbal tea market, especially for products intended for medicinal use, to protect public health.
