The Chicago Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack hosted Food for Thought, a video seminar series that explores the negative of hunger and food insecurity on children and the positive impact that Blessings has on our students. This episode features Amy Overmyer, LCPC, and Patti Van Winkle, Principal of Virginia Lake School in Palatine. Ms. Overmyer shares the physical and mental challenges presented when young people are hungry or anxious about where their next meal is coming from. WGN reporter Erin McElroy and the video team did a story about our "Team Sweetness" program at Walter Payton High School. They followed Team Sweetness to deliver the food at Franklin School. WGN expects to broadcast this story on November 20 during the 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. newscasts, November 21 on the mid-day news 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and twice the following weekend. The 2024 DIY 5K raised more than $80,000 with 822 participants!?Because of your support/participation, we raised $80,000 to provide food for 500 additional kids every Friday of the school year.
