Artis Beatty, OD, MS, has served as Chief Medical Officer for MyEyeDr. since 2017, shaping the clinical direction and overseeing a team committed to high-quality vision care. Before joining MyEyeDr. in 2014, he spent nearly a decade in regional practice in North Carolina. A graduate of UNC, Nova Southeastern College of Optometry, and the Wayne Huizenga School of Business, he also holds an M.S. in Health Services Administration. Dr. Beatty has held leadership roles within the North Carolina Optometric Society and contributed to optometry through advisory panels, publications, and speaking engagements. Thank you Black EyeCare Perspective Pre-Optometry Club for having me. I loved getting to share my story and experience as an optometrist. I emphasized the importance of having a mentor while in optometry school, asking for help when you need it and also dreaming big. I also taught them how to make themselves visible in the community after graduation. I emphasized continuous learning in the form of fellowships and contribution to your community in the form of volunteering and mentoring. I gave my experience on mentoring and how I have opened my clinic to high school students in my municipality. Some of whom are now enrolled in Optometry school. Thank you for listening to my story and learning from my journey on discovering what practice style worked best for me and why I chose to practise in beautiful Walkerton. #sharingmyjourney

Calling all future optometrists, ophthalmologists and opticians this grant is for you, apply today! Transitions Optical will award five grants in the amount of $1,000 to applicants who are graduating high school seniors aspiring to attend opticianry school in the U.S. Additionally, two grants in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded to second-year optometry or ophthalmology students attending an accredited U.S. school or college.
