关于我们

**Chicago International Film Festival Tickets: https://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/film/bike-vessel/ Bike Vessel follows a father and son, 35 and 70, as they cycle from St. Louis to Chicago. Film director Eric D. Seals’ father almost died after three open-heart surgeries. However, 20 years later, he makes a miraculous health recovery after discovering his love for cycling, bringing his son Eric along with him. Over the next fifteen years, he would have a total of three quadruple bypass surgeries and be forced into early retirement. However, the story doesn’t end there. Seals is now 70 years old and bicycles more than 30 miles a day; his heart problems have all but disappeared. Having once been on more than 20 daily medications, he is now down to one and his doctors call his recovery miraculous. Bike Vessel tells the story of a man defying health statistics and renewing his lease on life. The film takes a hard look at the health disparities plaguing Black men, and the systemic racism that has elevated them to the lowest life expectancy and highest death rate of any other racial or ethnic group. By the end of the film, viewers will understand where Seals once was in his health journey, how he made a full recovery, and his everyday commitment and struggle of never going back to the past.

I’m proud to share that Bike Vessel is now available to watch on Independent Lens on the PBS app, PBS online, YouTube, and the PBS broadcasting station! ?? This film has been a labor of love. It tells the story of my father, who transformed his life through cycling after facing three open-heart surgeries. Together, we rode from St. Louis to Chicago, exploring not only his personal journey but also the broader health disparities affecting Black men in America. Getting to this point was far from easy—but the lessons in resilience, health, and family are ones I hope will resonate with you. To everyone who has supported this journey: your support means everything to me. ???? We’ve also created a behind-the-scenes series (https://lnkd.in/eAwnsG4x)

Bringing a documentary to life is never a straight path—it’s a journey full of challenges, breakthroughs, and unforgettable moments. With Bike Vessel, that journey took place both on and off the screen, and now, I’m excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at how we made it happen. On February 24th, Bike Vessel Documentary officially premieres on PBS, but before then, I’m launching a new series called Making—our version of behind-the-scenes storytelling. This multi-episode series will take you inside the creative process, from developing the concept to filming, navigating film festivals, and everything in between. To kick things off, we’re releasing an in-depth overview of Bike Vessel—a look at the origins of the project, the driving force behind the story, and the key moments that shaped the journey. You’ll also hear from the team that helped bring it to life and see raw, behind-the-scenes footage from production, festival circuits, and speaking events. For those interested in documentary filmmaking, cinematography, or indie storytelling, this is a chance to see the process from the inside out. I’m looking forward to sharing what we’ve learned along the way. More episodes in the Making series are coming soon—stay tuned. • One of the best parts of summer film festivals is the chance to do what we love — both on and off the screen. While sharing Bike Vessel with new audiences, we also got to explore some beautiful paths on two wheels. During our time at Martha’s Vineyard, we took a ride through Oak Bluffs and along the iconic Inkwell Beach. There’s nothing quite like feeling the wind on your face while celebrating the journey of our film. Grateful for moments like these that blend passion with adventure.

  • One of the final stops for Bike Vessel Documentary during our festival run was at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival this summer, and it was an incredible experience. The community came out in full force to support our film, and the conversations that followed were truly inspiring. We’re so grateful for every person who watched, connected, and shared their thoughts with us. This journey has been about more than just telling a story — it’s about building a community around that story. Thank you to everyone at Martha’s Vineyard for making this screening so memorable. Onward and upward from here!

One of my primary objectives for this film was to initiate a dialogue about the health challenges faced by Black men. Through our impact campaign, we are now screening the film in various communities and partnering it with local bike rides. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of sharing Bike Vessel Documentary with my Connecticut family. Many of these folks met me during my time at ESPN when I was still figuring out life after college, and they have been supportive ever since. The love shown by BSL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION INC is truly amazing. Shout-out to brothers Tyron,Tyron Harris FMLA-CP,and Abdul-Rahmaan I. Muhammad . for bringing Bike Vessel to the local community. You brought an insightful conversation on healthy living and exercise to everyone. Big thank you to my brother Matthew Rivera for hosting the panel conversation; you did a wonderful job. Happy anniversary to my line brothers S.O.N. and celebrating 15 years since we crossed the burning sands of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Sponsored by: Trinity Health My People Dalio Education Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast BSL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION INC
