?? Meet the Cohort! Today we're introducing a member of our second cohort, Carrie B. Carrie’s career began in academic laboratory scientific research then progressed into the biotech and pharmaceutical industries after earning her bachelor’s in biomedical engineering and master’s in biotechnology, both from the Johns Hopkins University. Her passion for clear, concise, and accurate communication of medical and scientific data has been a common thread throughout her career, and she is currently Head of Scientific Communications at Edgewise Therapeutics, concentrating on a rare cardiovascular disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Over the course of her career, she has focused on diseases where there is a huge unmet need for patients across neuromuscular disorders, oncology, hematology, pulmonology, immunotherapy, and novel epigenetic editing therapeutics. The flexibility of the Executive PhD program has allowed her to pursue her ‘bucket list’ dream of completing a PhD while being able to balance family and work with school. ??? "The support of the staff and fellow students is incredible and coming in person for immersion weekends have been a truly wonderful experience."

Our Immersion Weekends aren't just classroom experiences, they're opportunities for our students to connect. Having our students on campus is always wonderful - even more so when we can see students from our first and second-year cohorts together. During our last Immersion Session we through a pub night to allow for some time to network and relax during our busy weekend.

Spring semester is well underway, and it's been so nice to see all our students on campus again. Last immersion weekend, Dr. Emily Corwin's HR Management and Methods course students led discussions for their fellow Executive PhD students. Tammy Rose presented on job holders with multiple jobs and Esteban L. spoke on entrepreneurship and the new labor movement post pandemic.

? Spotlight on Bentley HFID Alum & PhD Candidate: Dan Berlin? Ever wonder how a single moment can change your entire career? That’s exactly what happened to Dan Berlin when he participated in a usability study at the Bentley University User Experience Center (then, the Design and Usability Center). That experience sparked his passion for UX, leading him to quit his job and enroll in Bentley’s MBA + MSHFID program full-time. While at Bentley, Dan made an impact serving as President of the Graduate Student Association and helping to create what is now Bentley University UXGA. After graduating, he spent 12 years in UX research consulting, including a decade at Mad*Pow, where he built their formal UX research practice. A dedicated industry leader, Dan volunteered for UXPA Boston's Board of Directors from 2012-2018 and managed the conference submission process for nearly a decade. In 2021, he launched his own consultancy, Watch City Research, helping clients across industries uncover actionable insights. That same year, he edited O’Reilly’s 97 Things Every UX Practitioner Should Know, featuring contributions from 97 UX professionals. But Dan wasn’t done learning. When Bentley announced the Bentley University Executive PhD in Business, he jumped at the opportunity. And, "Dr. Dan" has a nice ring to it! Now deep into his dissertation on misaligned physician workflows in Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and their impact on patient outcomes, Dan is preparing to present his research at the Bentley Alumni Conference in May. What’s next? After earning his PhD, Dan hopes to teach more and continue consulting to bridge the gap between industry and academia. Let's celebrate Dan and his amazing contributions and accomplishments to Bentley University, the Boston UX community, and the broader industry at large! ??
