?? Bentley University was buzzing on Friday as 50+ future CPAs joined us for the first stop of the "Is Accounting for Me?" Fall tour! The day kicked off with Bentley’s admissions insights, followed by an interactive workshop from Deloitte's James Christenson, CPA, audit and assurance manager, and Jennifer Oberman, CPA, tax manager, who helped students see how their skills connect to a career in accounting. ? The big WOW moment? Carla McCall, CPA, CGMA, chair of the AICPA and managing partner at AAFCPAs, shared her career journey, dropping wisdom on finding firms with cultures that fit. ? And a powerhouse panel featuring Anthony B., CPA, tax partner at RSM US LLP, Sara Connolly, CPA, senior accounting manager at BJ's Wholesale Club, Victor Wei Liu, analyst at John Hancock Investment Management, Kacie L. McManus, CPA,, associate principal of forensic services at Charles River Associates and Kit Sengdara, CPA, manager of digital assurance and transparency at PwC, gave students the real scoop on career paths in accounting.? ? A huge shoutout to Franklin High School for winning our trivia challenge! ?? The day wrapped up with lunch, networking, and new connections—a fantastic start to this series. Wow!!! Back at my Alma mater Bentley Accounting Department as part of the MassCPAs Is Accounting for me? Series. Thanks for the invite Zach D. I was able to tell my story and specifically: ?? the value of starting my career in a small firm ?? why accounting is the language of business and a great base for any career ?? diversity of career choice and where you start may not be where you end up ?? earnings potential in real dollars ?? essential skills to be prepared for the profession today which includes knowledge in data analysis ??leadership skills ?? don’t be afraid to use your voice and fight for what is right ?? the most important things to look for for a successful career is find your meaningful work and align your values with the values of the company. ?? the people first culture I created at AAFCPAs I also had the privilege of having lunch with President E. LaBrent Chrite and professors and leaders at the University to discuss the profession and had a few laughs too. Hubby got to see me in action and got to lay eyes on my freshman boy. Eric Gaynor, CPA and Matthew Reidy from Public Consulting Group discussed Medicaid's impact on healthcare spending in the U.S. during Prof. Rob DeLeo of Global Studies, "The Business of Health" course. Medicaid accounts for $1 of every $5 spent in healthcare and is approaching $1 trillion in expenditures per year. The discussion focused on the significant revenue source Medicaid is for all kinds of businesses from non-profit to private equity.?Additionally, the program accounts for approximately 25-30% of a state’s budget, creating substantial financial pressures. #bentleyu #accounting ?
