Undaunted by a power outage that hit downtown Bend today, Oregon State University and Oregon State University-Cascades' Rebecca Robinson took to a temporary Bend Venture Conference (BVC) stage at Bend Brewing Co. to share about the Central Oregon Innovation Hub at OSU-Cascades and announce Eric Z. as the Hub's new executive director.

A total of $500,000 was committed to four standout companies during the 2024 Bend Venture Conference! This year's awardees include: -> ProMedix Inc - Precision Patient Monitoring was awarded $200,000 by the BVC LLC Fund. ProMedix is a noninvasive medical device that accelerates diagnosis of circulatory dysfunction and sepsis. -> Health Elements AI was awarded $100,000 by the BVC LLC Fund. Health Elements AI is a technology platform that leverages AI to streamline health data abstraction. -> Home Lending Pal was awarded $125,000 by The BFM Fund. Home Lending Pal is an analytics platform that identifies serious buyers within a bank’s database, leveraging a multilingual AI-agent to guide loan officers on effective outreach and messaging.? -> Hardcore Peanut Butter Spread Co was awarded $75,000 by The BFM Fund. Hardcore Peanut Butter Spread uses superfood ingredients, mixed into allergen-free peanut butter, to give all consumers a better-for-you, safe product. The Council Chair of the Oregon Innovation Council (Oregon InC), Jenn Lynch, moderated the keynote presentation at the Bend Venture Conference (BVC) yesterday! The keynote speaker was Julie Sandler (Co-founder and General Partner at PSL Ventures and Managing Director of Pioneer Square Labs), and the title of her talk was "Cold Calls, Hot Deals - VC Real Talk for a Wild Market." Rebecca serves as the Associate Vice President, Economic Development and Industry Relations Office at Oregon State University and as a Senior Advisor for Strategic Initiatives at Oregon State University-Cascades. She brings extensive experience from Kansas State University, where she most recently served as President and CEO of K-State Innovation Partners, overseeing economic development, corporate engagement, technology commercialization, and strategic initiatives. During her 16-year tenure, she recruited 29 technology-based companies to the region and created over 1,700 high-wage jobs, resulting in a projected economic impact of over $1 billion. Now at OSU, Rebecca is playing a key role in developing the innovation district at OSU-Cascades, fostering partnerships that drive economic growth and workforce development in Oregon. We are thrilled to welcome Corey Owens, CEO of Bend-based Bonta Gelato, as a featured speaker at this week's Bend Venture Conference (BVC)! Corey will be presenting "Entrepreneurship and Regulation - The Dynamic Forces Behind Winners and Losers," exploring the intersection of innovation and regulation, and how it can shape the success of entrepreneurs. Before his tasty career shift, Corey spent years at the forefront of tech innovation. His resume includes impressive leadership roles such as Chief Marketing Officer at Metropolis Technologies and Head of Global Public Policy at WeWork, where he championed new ways of thinking about communities and the built environment. Corey was also the first Head of Global Public Policy at Uber and Head of State Public Policy at Facebook, a role that brought him to Central Oregon to work on the Prineville data center project.
