The Human Factors & System Design* (HFSD) service line's Brianna OConnell and David Lieber, MS recently co-facilitated a simulation-based clinical systems test (SbCST) of the Dialysis team’s emergency response process to ensure a safe and effective opening of the new Dialysis unit. The simulation and systems debrief focused on how changes to the environmental design, equipment, and tasks, among other system elements in the new unit, can impact the emergency response process, system performance, and ultimately patient safety. *The HFSD service line specializes in uncovering and mitigating latent safety threats, inefficiencies, and gaps in clinical systems via Human Factors and simulation-based activities. Thank you for joining us JWU's Alliance of Women In STEM students! It was a pleasure to share our work in medical simulation and immersive design with such an engaged group. A special shoutout to Gabriel Arato who led the tour to Kristin Rosler from Johnson & Wales University for making the experience possible. #healthcareeducation #healthcare #meded #clined #hcsim #healthcaresimulation ?
JWU’s Alliance of Women in STEM @ Immersive Design Systems at Boston Children’s Hospital Huge thank you to the Immersive Design Systems team for providing our students with valuable insights into medical simulation and the groundbreaking work they do. Special thanks to our tour leader, Gabe, who was incredibly insightful and engaging throughout the tour. Highlights included 3D anatomical medical printing, simulation rooms where physicians and surgeons practice on medical models, and immersive experience rooms designed for patient and family support—such as a child’s bedroom for parents learning to assist a child with a new medical diagnosis, like tracheostomy care. Also, thank you to our faculty member, Kristin Rosler, and the following students who joined us today: Aaliyah Couto, Emily Patenaude, Lauren Powers, Alyssa Murphy, Vincent Lin, Bartho Demetouw, Emma Dugan, Rachel Mederios, Zayden Hill, and Amanda Toledo

This week, the IDS team wrapped up an incredibly rewarding simulation training program at the African Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy in Kano, Nigeria. Over the past week, we partnered with 30 skilled physicians, nurses, and technical specialists to deliver immersive OBGYN and pediatric care training.? Our work in simulation-based education supports local healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to provide high-quality care in maternal and pediatric health. As we reflect on this trip, we are excited about the potential to shape a healthy future for all. We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to sustainable healthcare practices in Kano and look forward to continuing and growing these meaningful collaborations. #GlobalHealth #IDSinNigeria #SimulationTraining #HealthcareEducation #Nigeria #MedEd #ClinEd

???? The IDS team is in Nigeria! We're excited to partner with Boston Children's Hospital's Margaret C. Ryan Global Health Program and the African Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy BAYERO UNIVERSITY, KANO to bring healthcare simulation training to Kano. Our travel team— Michelle Niescierenko, Jennifer L Arnold, Brianna OConnell, and Rebecca Williams, CHSOS—is ready to lead two immersive instructor courses this week. We'll be working with 30 participants, including physicians, nurses, and technical operations specialists, to provide hands-on simulation faculty education focusing on obstetrical and neonatal care. This collaboration goes beyond skills—it's about creating a culture of psychological safety in healthcare simulation, allowing participants to learn, practice, and refine their techniques in a safe and supportive environment. Stay tuned for updates from the ground in Nigeria as we work together to with local clinicians and educators to elevate healthcare standards! #HealthcareSimulation #GlobalHealth #TeamIDS #SimulationTraining #Nigeria #MedEd #ClinEd #HCSim

The IDS Training and Performance team, in partnership with Boston Children's Hospital's Network Development, had the pleasure of visiting Stamford Health to deliver two days of in-person faculty development and one-day virtual session that included physicians, nurses, respiratory therapy, simulation delivery specialists, and administrators. Participants were taken through the process of planning, designing, delivering and debriefing simulation-based activities. The curriculum included adult learning theory, delivery and debriefing methodology, the #SIMZones framework, #psychologicalsafety and hands-on exercises to provide them with a comprehensive foundation in providing immersive learning experiences for their staff in a safe space. The participants' willingness to challenge themselves both personally and professionally in order to enhance their practice and contribute to outstanding care at Stamford Hospital was truly impressive. Many thanks to Karen Gruskin, Medical Director of Hospital Partnerships and Barbara Carr, Service Line Director of Women's and Children's Service Line at Stamford Health, for bringing our organizations together. Karen Gruskin, Jessica Sexton, Saja Traoui, Brianna OConnell, Matthew Taylor, Anderson Lamberto-Wilson, MSW and Scott Cook, MS teamed up to deliver the three days of faculty development. IDS looks forward to further partnerships with Stamford Health, as well as other regional, national and international institutions in pursuit of improving patient care. #meded #clined #hcsim #healthcaresimulation #simulation #healthcare #patientoutcomes ?
