Did you know having diabetes can impact your dental health? It doesn’t just affect blood sugar. According to the American Diabetes Association, 38.4 million Americans live with diabetes. And with that comes a greater risk of developing periodontal disease, thrush and dry mouth. So, it’s important to not only keep your blood sugar under control but have regular dental exams to spot signs of these diseases before they become major medical problems. Help protect your employees, especially those with diabetes, by offering dental insurance. Cancer is America’s second leading cause of death. Rates are rising in younger adults. And for employers, it’s now the top driver of health care costs. In our new employer podcast series’ debut episode, Dr. Berner, Chief Clinical Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, and Dr. Alvarnas, a hematologist-oncologist with City of Hope, take on key cancer care challenges today, and what we can do, together, to address them. For employers and employees. Tune in to the discussion! Learn more at: https://spr.ly/6047sq4Hx

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois was part of the recent American Diabetes Association "State of Diabetes" event, held at Malcolm X College. BCBSIL Executive Medical Director Dr. Elmer Abbo was part of a panel entitled "Obesity, Diabetes, and Health Care Costs: A Critical Focus for Employers." A great panel discussion on the unique needs employers face as they work with their employee populations to help develop a healthy workforce.

The need for effective community violence intervention is critical. We are committed to investing in training mental health first aid workers to recognize the signs of distress, provide immediate support, and connect those in need to appropriate resources. We celebrate these new graduates that completed their training in Loves Park, Illinois and look forward to equipping more communities with tools needed to combat violence and support mental health.
