WSU-YOU Day is happening today at Wichita State University! This exciting event gives future Shockers admitted for the fall semester a firsthand look at the incredible opportunities WSU offers. From connecting with student organizations and exploring leadership roles to attending a job fair, registering for orientation, and meeting fellow students, it’s a dynamic preview of campus life. Students also got a taste of WSU’s outstanding academics by participating in various mock classes and exploring the many programs and majors the university has to offer. Today is all about experiencing what it truly means to be a Shocker! A huge thank you to Rani Somers and Kayla Klein for the invitation to teach a 30-minute mock finance class. My session, "Home Run Deals: The Business Behind Bobby Bonilla Day – Exploring Smart Business Strategies Through Sports," introduced students to a key principle of smart investing and business strategy: the time value of money. We explored how this concept applies in real-world scenarios across sports, business, and beyond, using Bobby Bonilla’s contract as a compelling example of financial strategy in action. More than just a baseball star, Bonilla proved to be a master of financial foresight! It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with future Shockers and their families, highlight the exceptional programs at the Barton School of Business, and showcase our state-of-the-art Woolsey Hall facility. I look forward to welcoming these talented students to Wichita State and the Barton School of Business—and hopefully, to the finance major, where my colleagues and I can help guide them toward future success!
