BALTIC-FIT Team Aboard the Legendary Icebreaker Tarmo ??? ?? On 7 March 2025, members of the Maritime Transport Research Group had the incredible opportunity to spend the day aboard Estonia’s great icebreaker, Tarmo. ?? Our team—Se?il GüLMEZ, Deniece M. Aiken, PhD, Kadi Kasep?ld, T?nis Hunt, Andres Laasma, and Kristine Carjova—explored the vessel’s Bridge and Engine Room, gaining valuable insights into its operations. ???? We also actively participated in emergency trainings, including fire drills, man overboard procedures, and emergency steering exercises.?????? It was an exciting and educational experience that deepened our understanding of maritime safety and icebreaking operations. ?? BALTIC-FIT at Meremess 2025: Advancing Green Maritime Solutions??? From March 7 to 9, 2025, the BALTIC-FIT team joined #Meremess2025, the region’s largest maritime exhibition in Tallinn, featuring 200+ vessels and 105 companies. ?? Represented by Maritime Transport Research Group members Kristel Rauk and Kristine Carjova, the team introduced visitors to BALTIC-FIT’s mission and its role in promoting environmentally friendly solutions for Baltic Sea vessels under Fit-for-55 regulations, while Se?il GüLMEZ presented the #SustainableFlow project. ?? ?? BALTIC-FIT: A Strong Start to 2025! As winter comes to an end, we reflect on an exciting and productive start to the year for the BALTIC-FIT project. In just two months, our team has actively contributed to key maritime events, launched new initiatives, and strengthened collaboration across the Baltic region. We kicked off the year with participation in the Smart Sea Centre of Excellence Annual Seminar and the LOGY Conference 2025 Suomen Osto- ja Logistiikkayhdistys LOGY ry, where our experts contributed to discussions on sustainability, digitalization, and the future of shipping. Our members also joined the #WaterborneDays 2025 and explored collaboration opportunities at the World Maritime University. Additionally, BALTIC-FIT was represented at the Science to Business! (TIIVIK) program, connecting research with industry applications. (TIIVIK) program kick-off event in Tartu. The event brought together academia, entrepreneurs, and investors to discuss collaboration opportunities, innovation, and commercialization of research.? ?? TIIVIK is a dynamic program running in two phases from February to June, featuring weekly interactive seminars, workshops, mentorship sessions, and a final demo day.
