Reaching the sky
It is impossible to express my enormous pride and satisfaction at having received today the 2024 E.J Criscuoli Jr CPP Volunteer Leader Award.
A member of ASIS International since 1960, E.J Criscuoli was a renowned leader and former ASIS President (1974/75). Each year, this recognition is awarded to an ASIS International member who has exhibited selfless devotion at the volunteer level, emphasizing significant contributions at the chapter and regional levels over an extended period of time.?Until now thirty volunteer leaders have received this award, implemented in 1995, with only three non-US and only one Spaniard and Spanish speaking member (2020, 2023 and now 2024).
This year I completed 34 years as a member of which 16 as a volunteer leader in different positions. From Board member of the Chapter 143 (Spain) in the 90s; Vice President (2003/2007), and President (2013/2018).Three completely different periods of the chapter but also of the profession and even of the world. To which must be added responsibilities as member of the European Advisory Council (2017/2019), ARVP and RVP (2017/2022), and also a member of various councils and of the Standards and Guidelines Committee.
I have always maintained the view that ASIS International was actually the one who invented our profession of corporate security and above all, who has dignified it over the years, although there is still a long way to go. ASIS International has been, is and will continue to be the global reference for a profession that has evolved very substantially over the last two decades, although it is still misunderstood, and the worst thing is that an important part of the blame lies on us.
A profession that will continue to evolve in the future in terms of Security Risk Management, ESRM (a strategic advance of ASIS International), and other associated risks.
For more than three decades I have read every document, every SM, every standard, every report of the ASIS foundation; I obtained my CPP in 2002, convinced of the strategic importance of certifications in our profession; and I tried to participate in all possible initiatives. I have preached tirelessly, convinced of the message I conveyed, which was none other than the one created by ASIS International with an impressive projection of where this profession is in every moment and where it is going in the next 10 years with an absolutely exceptional vision.
I would like to thank the Awards Committee of ASIS International, and specially Godfried Hendriks, former ASIS International President, colleague and friend, who leaded the canditature, for granting me this recognition, which gives me the feeling of having reached the maximum in my career as a member and leading volunteer of this unparalleled organization.
