关于我们
We at the American Nuclear Society and the University of New Mexico are thrilled to invite students, professionals, educators, and future trailblazers in the fields of nuclear science and technology to our 2025 ANS Student Conference. Our theme is Old and Nu. This theme honors New Mexico’s role in the dawn of the nuclear era and the vast role the state has played in the continued expansion of nuclear science and technology. The University of New Mexico, nestled between Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs, as well as other key nuclear entities, is a hub of knowledge and collaboration in neutronics, thermal hydraulics, criticality safety, nuclear policy, and more! In addition to its prominence as a place of scientific study, Albuquerque is a culturally rich community on Native land, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Rio Grande and Sandia Mountains. Our Conference aims to: Advance nuclear technologies by highlighting student research and initiatives poised to revolutionize the nuclear landscape. Foster networking and mentorship by creating a dialogue where seasoned professionals and emerging engineers can exchange knowledge and forge new connections. Shape public perception by addressing the storied past of nuclear in New Mexico while paving the way for future solutions in policy, energy, and science that engage with all communities – here in New Mexico, the United States, and the world. Join us at the nexus of heritage and progress, where we celebrate past achievements and anticipate future advancements to nuclear science and engineering.

We're thrilled to announce that the Penn State American Nuclear Society Student Section has been awarded the prestigious Samuel Glasstone Award! This esteemed recognition, shared with Missouri S&T, shows our commitment to excellence in the field of nuclear engineering. This honor is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and innovative initiatives undertaken by the Penn State ANS Student Section members. The section's distinctive accomplishments include hosting a successful ANS Student Conference and organizing numerous engaging open houses at the Breazeale Reactor, which have made a significant impact on the community. Receiving the Samuel Glasstone Award not only validates the significant impact our section has made but also comes with a certificate and a monetary prize that will contribute to our future endeavors. Thanks to our amazing members, adviser, and professors who made this achievement possible! Let's keep working hard and dedicate ourselves to further advancing the field of nuclear engineering. #WeAre Penn State College of Engineering

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the ANS Student Conference at Penn State with the North Carolina State University graduating senior class. During this conference, I presented with my senior design group on developing a Dynamic PRA Model for the PULSTAR Reactor, winning best presentation in the Power Reactor Reliability Operations & Safety. In addition, I presented research results from “ML-LIBS” through undergraduate research with Dr. Wu and Dr. Kautz. This project earned best overall paper! I enjoyed presentations I saw given from other students and the connections made!!

I am pleased to announce that two weeks ago I won the Best Presentation Award in Computational Methods, Machine Learning, and AI for my paper entitled "Parameter Importances from Random Forest Machine Learning for Accident Tolerant Fuel Pool Boiling." A couple weekends ago, I was able to travel to Pennsylvania State University to the American Nuclear Society Student Conference where I was able to present my research on Nuclear Heat Transfer and Machine Learning. My research focuses on improving the safety of light water reactors through improving heat transfer characteristics with advanced materials. I am grateful to all of the members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison American Nuclear Society Chapter who cheered me on and came to listen to my talk. While at Penn State, I spent time visiting the Three Mile Island Plant, where I learned a lot about what happens when a reactor needs to be decommissioned. Furthermore, I was able to talk to many people in the industry, met many other nuclear engineering students from other schools, and listened to other presentations, which I will use the information that I learned to improve my own research. I have the pleasure of working under Professor Juliana Pacheco Duarte, who has helped me tremendously both learning about Thermal Hydraulics and helping me to become a researcher. I would also like to commend Bruno Pinheiro Serrao for all of his help during my research. None of this would be possible without their guidance. I would like to thank all of the staff at the Student Conference for both such a fun and engaging conference, as well as the opportunity for me to present my research and to win this award.
