As the region faces increasing housing costs and we sustain a 44,000 unit shortage, more and more Richmonders are going to get squeezed out. Last week, we aired an episode of America's Healthiest City that was quite different than any of the others we aired prior. Instead of taking to someone who is in love with Richmond and is working to make it better, Will Melton interviewed someone who tried to make Richmond work and is deciding to move away from RVA. Sparkle Veronica Taylor, a resident of Gilpin Court, shared her story of trying to make it - first as someone who moved here and was without a home in short order, then as a resident of the Big Six. While this is a hard interview to hear and it hardly embodies the uplifting message we feel is critical to build this belief system, we need to listen more to those who haven’t made it yet and struggle every day to get above water.
