In 1652 Pope Innocent X started the tradition of having what today is called Piazza Navona, in Rome, flooded to entertain and refresh the Romans during the summer heat. Every Saturday and Sunday in August the fountains were closed and the water could overflow flooding the square which then turned into a ‘lake’. After the disaster caused by the earthquake in Turkey and the need to reconvert public spaces into improvised accommodation, SPELL association thought it was vitally important to give the children back some much needed normality and give them the opportunity to do physical activity in the open air and enjoy a day of games under the precepts of the AMELIA project. https://lnkd.in/dUJSUdy7 Ahmet Dalc? #sportsandfun #promotingoutdoorphysicalactivity #morepublicspacesfordoingphysicalactivity #ameliaproject #earthquaketurkey

It underscored the creativity and fresh perspectives that young designers bring to the table, reinforcing the importance of involving emerging professionals in urban planning processes. Afternoon Sessions and Working Groups The afternoon sessions focused on the AMELIA Manifesto, a document outlining principles for sport-based urban regeneration. Participants gathered in working groups to discuss and refine the manifesto, contributing with a diverse range of ideas and perspectives. The collaborative nature of this exercise emphasized on the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in designing effective urban interventions. A round table discussion provided a platform for final reflections on the potential of sport-based solutions for urban regeneration. First of AMELIA's multiplier events in Lousada, Portugal: "Event for sports leaders, policy makers and sports professionals" The Dissemination Workshop began with a welcome for participants from various sports professional backgrounds, including sports leaders, teachers, coaches and political decision-makers. The aim of the meeting was to disseminate the results and experiences of the AMELIA project and to promote debates on the integration of sport into urban development strategies. The session began with an introduction to the AMELIA project, which focuses on harnessing sport as a catalyst for creating more sustainable and inclusive cities. The project emphasizes community involvement in the design and implementation of sports-based solutions, ensuring that public spaces are accessible and engaging for all, particularly young people and marginalized groups. A detailed presentation of the Reference Book and Atlas highlighted several good practices for integrating sport into urban policies and the regeneration of public space. These resources show how sport can transform public areas such as parks, riverbanks and streets into vibrant community centers. AMELIA's added value lies in its participatory approach, involving local communities in the co-creation of these solutions, which helps to ensure that interventions are tailored to residents' needs and preferences. In the final phase of the training, the group was presented with the Join Position Paper and the AMELIA Manifesto, a document that defines the principles for sports-based urban regeneration. Participants got involved at the end by asking questions and sharing their professional experiences, contributing a diverse range of ideas and perspectives. The collaborative nature of this exercise highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in designing effective urban interventions, with final reflections on the potential of sport-based solutions for urban regeneration in Lousada. Key conclusions included the importance of community involvement and the role of sport in promoting social cohesion and well-being in urban environments. Município de Lousada

Within the scope of the AMEL?A project, a cycling event was held in a 10-km area with the participation of 80 people. The first of AMELIA's multiplier events in Turkiye was held in June at the University, on the bicycle track created by SPELL for the event, at the ?n?nü University Campus in Malatya. Vacant and undamaged lands were chosen for the purpose of renewing abandoned or difficult seismic areas (for example, unsafe places damaged after earthquakes) and revitalizing cities. Local activities are important so that children can engage with nature and develop new habits of exercising in green areas for a more sustainable future. 1. Learning Eco-Friendly Behaviors: Children adopted an eco-friendly form of transportation by cycling. 2. Promoting Active Lifestyle: Cycling encourages children to be physically active. This reduces the risk of obesity, improves heart health, increases muscle strength and enhances overall health and wellbeing. 3. Learning Traffic Rules and Safe Driving Behaviors: Cycling offers children the opportunity to learn traffic rules and develop safe driving behaviors. This will help them travel safely when they interact with motor vehicles in the future. 4. Increased Self-Confidence: Cycling improves children's motor skills and increases their self-confidence. By achieving something on their own, they increase their overall self-confidence and this helps them trust their own abilities. 5. Strengthening Social Ties: Cycling offered an enjoyable activity where children could spend time with friends and family. 6. Strengthening the Connection with Nature: Cycling allows children to have more contact with nature and better understand their environment and become nature-sensitive individuals.

At the end of April 2024, Amateur Sport Leagues organized three multiplier events aimed at presenting the key AMELIA deliverables, tools, and messages. Those events had different types of audience (target groups) and altogether attracted close to 130 participants. A special focus was put on explaining AMELIA Joint Position Paper and the conducted survey collecting expert opinions, on presenting the AMELIA Atlas, and on bringing into focus potential future activities that can be generated by the Aesthetics Transnational Movement. The first event was organized together with the Sport Department of Sofia University. The goal was to make future physical education teachers and sporting figures aware of active cities concept and the growing role of sport for well-being. The second event targeted students whose educational background is related to urban geography, spatial planning, and regional development. The main efforts were focused on making them acquainted with the potential sport-based solutions for regenerating, reshaping, and co-designing public urban places, including relevant mechanisms and tools. The idea of the third event was to reach a wider audience, including practitioners, activists, stakeholders, young people interested in the topic, among others. Discussions there covered diverse themes related to the role of public spaces, benefits of sport and physical activities, strategies to activate stakeholders, possible ways of ensuring financing of relevant initiatives.
