Patriarchy, Gender, and Health Inequities: Removing the Barriers Gender barriers severely restrict progress for girls and women in Africa. Inequality is perpetuated by harmful norms like female genital mutilation (FGM/C) and child marriage, along with the stigma surrounding sexual and reproductive health issues. Many countries overlook these issues in their policies, delaying gender equality and preventing African nations from benefiting socially and economically. Addressing these barriers is essential for progress.
