Today, AES teams around the world came together to celebrate Values Day, a day dedicated to recognizing and celebrating our core principles: Safety First, Highest Standards, and All Together. We're incredibly proud to be a company driven by these values, which are the foundation of our purpose to accelerate the future of energy, together. This commitment to ethical business practices has earned AES recognition as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies for the 11th consecutive year by Ethisphere, a global leader in defining ethical standards. We are one of only four energy companies worldwide to receive this honor for over a decade. This year’s Values Day theme was “Do The Right Thing,” and we gathered together for a microplastic beach clean-up. Mahalo to Kailua Beach Adventures for lending us their microplastic sifters & buckets for our volunteer day! We then gathered for lunch and inspiring messages from our leadership, reinforcing the importance of our values in everything we do. Mahalo to our team for coming out to help celebrate our core values! #AES #AESHawaii #RenewableEnery #ValuesDay?

Earlier this month, our team had the privilege of visiting Da Market, a vital program in Lahaina by Maui Food Bank and Hawaii Red Cross. Da Market has served as a lifeline for thousands impacted by the tragic Maui wildfires, offering fresh food and essential items at no cost. Between June 17 and August 31 of this year alone, Da Market has distributed 452,233 lbs of food (including 74,617 lbs of fresh produce) and served 4,950 people across 1,445 households (85% of those were directly impacted by the Maui fires). We are honored to support this much-needed initiative. After the fires last year, AES team members & partners worldwide raised over $29,000 on an AES American Red Cross microsite to donate to Maui to support critical programs like Da Market. AES Hawai?i later matched these funds and provided a $15,000 donation to Maui United Way and $15,000 donation to Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA). Our President, Sandra Larsen, also serves on the board of the American Red Cross in Hawai?i, contributing her time and talents to this vital organization. Da Market, Maui Food Bank, and Hawaii Red Cross help families in need, including children, seniors, and those facing food insecurity and unstable housing. We’re honored to witness the impact firsthand and to stand with this resilient community. #aeshawaii #mauistrong #damarket #foodsecurity #mauifoodbank #hawaiiredcross

On Friday, AES Hawai?i held a blessing ceremony to officially celebrate the grand opening of Kūihelani Solar + Storage – Hawai‘i’s largest solar facility! The project is now powering 27,000 homes on Maui with clean, renewable energy! ?? We started the day at the project where we heard remarks from Maui County Mayor Honorable Richard T. Bissen,?Hawaiian Electric?President & CEO Shelee Kimura,?AES Hawai?i?President Sandra Larsen, and Bernerd Da Santos (Executive Vice President and President of Global Renewables for?The AES Corporation). We are honored that Mayor Bissen presented us with a proclamation to declare September 6, 2024, as “Energy Resiliency Day”! ? Then, Kahu Kimokeo Kapahulehua blessed our Kūihelani project. This was even more meaningful because Kahu Kimokeo also blessed our site two years ago at our groundbreaking ceremony – it’s amazing how far we’ve come! Our grand opening reception was held at?Maui Arts & Cultural Center, where we celebrated the achievements of our entire team and all of the partners who helped make this project possible. We were grateful to hear from?Senator Lynn DeCoite, Sandra, Bernerd, and President & CEO of?Boys & Girls Club of Maui?Kelly Pearson. We also presented?BGCM?with a social impact donation and symbolic ?a?ali?i plant on behalf of our entire team. At 8 cents per kilowatt hour, Kūihelani delivers the lowest renewable energy cost in the state, offsetting the need to import 2 million barrels of oil. This is a major milestone for Maui and Hawai‘i’s journey toward 100% renewable energy! This 450-acre project also supports Maui’s agriculture by partnering with Ho‘oulu ‘āina Farms in Waikapu to have sheep graze on the land, which also offers training opportunities for Native Hawaiian students through?Living Pono Project. ?? Mahalo to our entire team, the community, all the local leaders & legislators,?Hawaiian Electric, our landowner?Mahi Pono, our EPC contractor?BayWa r.e. Global?and sub-contractors?Goodfellow Bros.,?KKL Maui, and all of the partners who joined in making Kūihelani Solar + Storage a reality. This was truly an?#AllTogether?effort and an amazing achievement for Hawai?i’s clean energy future. We are proud to partner with MADE IN HOPE to donate 200+ solar panels for their Hui Homes project on Maui. This initiative provides emergency housing solutions, constructing tiny homes for families displaced by the Lahaina fires. These solar panels were part of our reserve inventory, and we are grateful to be able to donate them to such a meaningful cause. As of March, Hui Homes has built 11 tiny homes and 2 larger structures. These homes, each accommodating up to five people, offer an immediate and vital housing solution. The solar panels will allow the structure to be more self-sustainable and lessen costs for families. Additionally, some panels will be used to support a worksite at Valley Isle Fellowship, offsetting property costs where these homes are being constructed. Special mahalo to Young Brothers, LLC for donating their shipping services, and to Goodfellow Bros. for their help transporting the panels. One year after the tragic events, we are humbled to be a small part of the ongoing recovery efforts for the families who were affected. We continue to stand united in support of Maui. #mauistrong
