The choreographic precision and distinction through which Dr Zwelini Mkhize has conducted his medical health choir, in the current epoch, points to president Cyril Ramaphosa ‘s wisdom in choosing Dr Mkhize to head the health portfolio.
Calm, composed and indefatigable, Mkhize is the archetype field marshal who is acutely aware that there is no other setting, that can drive fear and summon courage, like battle. He has excellently marshaled his troops with affectionate energy and honour, and thus achieved true patriotic unanimity in fighting the implacable novel corona virus.
In combat, Dr Mkhize exudes confidence which is devoid of arrogance, with a faint air of solitude , as he moves from place to place, like the spirits do, in their quest for perfection. He is the president’s point man and a doctor ‘s doctor, pivotal and vital for the imminent demise of the elusive foe.
Dr Mkhize is not oblivious that his gargantuan brief is to exorcise the virus and crowd in gaiety in the populace, which has pinned its high hopes on him but is also expected to play its part.
Perhaps, the erstwhile ANC President, OR Tambo , had a premonition of covid-19 virus and Dr Mkhize in combat when he declared - Each patriot, a combatant; each combatant, a patriot.
Dr Zwelini Mkhize, is former premier of KZN, as well as, former treasurer general of the ANC. He is now minister of health in the cabinet of president Cyril Ramaphosa.
