Zubin's Travelogue Part 2
Me at Trincomalee, North Eastern part of Sri Lanka

Zubin's Travelogue Part 2

One of our family trips was a really unique one where we had a fingerprint experience in every place we visited. This was almost 5 years ago, when we went to Sri Lanka. It was an interesting experience because we went to 4 different places and experienced 4 completely different ambiances. I was amazed at the diversity of culture & topography on that tiny little island.

First we went to Trincomalee, a beach destination on the NE side of the island. It was a beautiful Goa type beach where we went whale watching, dolphin gazing, scuba diving, then we hung out like beach bums and chilled.

After that we went to a place called Habarana where we had the most amazing village experience. The villagers invited us into their cottages, and fed us like family. Authentic village food cooked on open fires, accompanied by fresh veggies which they brought in from the village garden, it was a true rustic experience.

Then came the Safari experience- we got up early in the morning driving for 3 hours to get there, waited for a long time hoping to see lions & tigers, and instead met 3 elephants! So that was a bit of a let down, but an experience nonetheless.

Nuwara Eliya, a gorgeous hill station, was our next stop. So we literally went from wearing Speedos at the beach to wearing Sweaters in the hills! It was really cold and we enjoyed a bonfire, ate yummy BBQ and did all that other stuff you do in cold places.

From there... Colombo. So we traveled from beach to village to safari to hills to city! All this in a time span of 15 days! In Colombo we went to the famous #MinistryOfCrab where we gorged on some fantastic crabs. Of course we couldn’t miss Kaema Sutra, #JacquelineFernandez restaurant where we had authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. And then we also had some fabulous sushi at a place called #Nihonbashi. All this fancy stuff aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the staple of Sri Lankan food….#Hoppers. They’re much like our appams, but crispier. Filled with a variety of goodies from chicken to chocolate.

Family-Fun-Food…. The 3 F’s of travel

This is just one of my travelogues….stay tuned for more.

I’d also love to hear your stories. Because we all experience different learning from travel. That's what travel does. Teaches us how to deal with different cultures, environments and people.

Adapting as we go along- from place to place.
