ZIT 5 Social Media Change Makers

ZIT 5 Social Media Change Makers

In every area, there are people who are seen to be changer makers. They are the movers and the shakers. They are positive and daring. Since I live in Ghana and the people I am connected with the most are Ghanaians, I would love to mention the people I believe are the social media changer makers. These are people are seen as role models and are admired by many. Yes, they command a lot of following and people keep praising them for what they do. This I believe makes it clear that, social media is what you make of it. These are people I am connected with, there might be others out there doing great things, but since I am not connected with them, I cannot tell what they are doing and how others are being affected by what they do.

  1. Elijah Amoo Addo

Elijah is the Founder of Food for All Ghana. He is a Chef by profession. But his passion for humanity made him quit working as a Chef and has now dedicated his time for charity. He says his dream is to build West Africa's first food bank in Ghana. The reason he is number one on the list is because, he attempted a world record for the longest table ever in the world. That I say is daring. He was faced with so many challenges but he did not give up on the attempt. He used social media to gather support. He was contacted by many through social media. The head of events at Indomie said in a meeting that I was presence "I saw it on Facebook," and I thought it wise that we come in to support. Food Sovereignty Ghana also came on board to support, and they said they also saw it on Twitter. This is mainly because, social media was instrumental in gaining support for the world record. Elijah said the world record attempt was to raise funds to build the first food bank in West Africa. Unfortunately, he was not able to construct the world's longest table but he was able to constructed Africa's longest table. I must also add that, he had over 100 volunteers who came through social media. He also feeds the less privileged through his "Share Your Breakfast" every Saturday, where people come to share their breakfast with the less privileged. And many of these people, come from social media.

2. AR Zakari Mcim

Zakari is a sports marketer by profession and he is the founder of Zongo Inspirational Team with an annual event dubbed Zongo Dream Mentorship Clinic. We all know the level of unemployment and the lack of interest in education is in the Zongo communities. Zakari with the help of social media, has been able to put together an inspirational team to help in mentoring. And this inspirational team are from different professions. They help in shaping the dreams of the younger ones in the Zongo communities. Zakari is in this list because, I see him to be an inspirational for his followers, which includes me. He recently decided to cross cities with his inspirational team to Kumasi, Asawase. He is a Zongo boy and thinks that there is less inspiration in the young ones in the Zongo communities, thus the need to have them inspired by one of their own.

3. Kobby Blay

Kobby is the founder of Ghana Health Nest and he is a nurse by profession. I have heard people say he is redefining the term "nurse" with his approach to the profession. I have also heard people say he is a social media nurse, who attends to patients on social media, thus making social media his hospital. Kobby understands what it means to have a brand on social media and maintain its visibility all the time. During the Ebola outbreak, Kobby kept us informed, especially those of us here in Ghana. He gathered volunteers from social media, and together they created awareness on how to prevent the disease from making one a victim. He effectively use social media to educate his huge following on how to seek treatment or prevent certain diseases from affecting them. He is indeed a social media nurse.

4. Henrietta Adjetey UP

Henrietta is a Graphic Designer by profession, she is the founder of Upgrade Phixion and the vice president of Food for all Ghana. Henrietta is in this list because of her beautiful soul and strong heart. She is a go getter and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Being the Vice of Elijah who is #1 on the list for Food for all Ghana, Henrietta used social media to recruit the management team for Food for all Ghana which I am part. She did not just recruit, but, she was also on the grounds working hard for the success of the record break attempt by Food for all Ghana. She worked 24/7 and I believe she did not even have time to take her bath the whole day. She behaved like a man. Yeah... you know men, we don't like to bath. And on the day of the event, she was all over. I head her fellow women discussing her, and the reason being that she is too strong.

5. Obaa Amponsah

Obaa is featured in this list because of nature of giving. Through social media, Obaa has given so much for charity. To quote her favorite quote "I learned to give not because I have much, but because I know exactly how it feels not to have nothing." Clearly, this shows someone with a beautiful heart to give. Thanks to social media, her beautiful heart would not have been known to the many. Let's not forget that, the founders of charity organisations rides on the backs of such people to survive, especially the grassroot charity organizations. There are many of these people on social media. And I call them "The givers, takers and givers on social media."

Again, these are people I am connected with on social media. So if you know someone who is not connected with me and would want me to feature the person. Kindly send me a note with the person's Facebook profile name. I will investigate and feature the person. My Facebook profile name is Zakiyu Iddris Tindannayil.
