Zillion’s Melt Madness Greenville Region 2 Championship Winner Revealed
Some of us are still reeling from the Michigan v. NC State match-up last week. In every tournament there’s a few moments you’ll never forget, and speaking for our analysts, it was one for the books. Both teams had their share of inspiring plays and strong fundamentals. But only one could continue in the pursuit of the Melt Madness championship. And that distinction goes to Michigan.?
This week they face Oklahoma State, who neatly defeated Washington State with their idea “The Cowboy Code.”?
Let’s revisit the strengths which propelled Michigan over NC State. Deciding in Michigan’s favor required the resolution of whether Michigan’s idea and brand offered something more than NC State’s. Despite the fact both remain bold, unexpected and claim driven, and motivate and compel stakeholders, only “Prestige for Public Good” is clever enough to reframe a potentially limiting perception into an asset, striking a chord of knowing yet purposeful humility. And it’s this level of organizational and brand self–awareness which united our analysts in their decision at last.?
By comparison, Oklahoma State’s “The Cowboy Code” draws upon an engaging element of their culture to represent their values. While it has stakeholder appeal, it doesn’t hold up to the criteria for an unexpected idea or a strong claim. We applaud Oklahoma State’s integration of the cowboy and the code in their communications, even as we encourage them to consider whether they can stake a more differentiated and ownable claim.?
