Zero Waste July Update
ProEarth ZeroWaste
??Composting & Zero Waste experts?? ??15K households/day, 300Tons/month diverted from landfills!?? ??Waste to forests??
Half way through the year, and we welcomed July with absolute gusto. Despite the gush of rains, we were talking trash and making sure we supported the transition away from landfills.
At the start of the month, we had interesting interns from School of Civil Engineering USYD led and anchored by Kapil Chauhan , Sabita Adhikari , Arvin Hadlos and Jacqueline Thomas . We thoroughly enjoyed the insights and thoughts that Alessandro Systermans , Akashdeep Kamble and Bennett Chung shared with us to improve our day to day operations. Their enthusiasm and kindness will always be remembered at ProEarth.
Thank you Anitha Ramanna and Authentica for bringing like minded indviduals and organisations together.
What is July, if we don't remember Plastic Free July! And so in the spirit of helping many people who ask us how can we all manage the plastic we put out some videos that would help. The most asked question is - how to store recyclables, so that they are recycled. That and more in the video here where Anil Gokarn talks about simple steps to clean our city
And as August gears up, we all welcome many celebrations such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Raksha Bandhan - even Independence Day! Celebrations invariably mean using of flowers and we can stop our holy flowers from going to landfill by composting. Check out this video where Hamsa Iyer talks how we can Compost Nirmalya.
We welcomed a new team member who now joins us in combating plastic pollution. A baler, in partnership with Gemcorp Recycling & Technologies that we hope to scale our impact on sending more materials for recycling.
This means, more work, more accountability that we hope to bring to the facet of plastic pollution. More coming in the months on this, as our team gears up.
There's nothing like talking to people about trash. And this month we had two wonderful opportunities. We spoke to Mahindra Lifespaces employees under the aegis of Plastic Free July.

Over 80 employees pan India joined this awarness - and we were delighted to see the enthusiasm of many pledging to bring in their plastic waste for recycling across locations. Grateful for the opportunity Dr. Sunita Purushottam and team for the lovely engagement we had with the associates.
And one of our very own projects, Queen Mary's Technical Institute invited us to re-train their new cadets and students. At QMTI, we have been composting their wet waste on site for almost 2 years now - and the system has been working perfectly. QMTI has reduced the dependency on landfills by 90%.
We set the segregation systems at the start of the project to make sure everyone on campus segregates waste uniformly. We were even pleasantly surprised to see some of them having their own kitchen gardens. That just made our July perfect. It is always endearing to see people work on Zero Waste Goals - no effort is small. We had quite a few visitors who dropped of their e-waste and plastic waste at our office premises.
We are proud of our team, who have shown up in these torrid rains - and contributed to daily operations in such tough weather. They are our true Zero Waste champions.
