This is new format here.
I sent Paulius Milmantas a message introducing my "HRbro" membership and he replied that he does not see any necessity as he follows the green lights on his own.
This story isn’t such extraordinary, but it’s power and inspiration vibe comes from it’s simplicity. No magic, only pure confident steps.
We had short chat-interview with Paulius, I asked direct questions and got direct answers.

? How have you gained your first software engineering job?
I knew the company from the public sector projects they were doing and noticed that they had an open position for a software engineer that they posted on a local job search site (cvbankas). I sent my CV to the contact person’s email that was given in the job description, got a call the next day for an interview, and within a week I got hired.
? Was it paid job for the beginning or your started as (almost) unpaid intern?
It was a paid job from the start. At that time the salary was competitive for a junior.
? When you realized that it’s time to move forward?
While working with public sector projects, I started noticing huge lacks in the development process – how everything was forced, and no long-run practices were implemented. The main reason for such a projects is that the company did not know if they would win the grant next year, thus nobody had need to invest time in good practices. Because I felt I was not improving anymore and felt like I could have problems later in my career if I stagnated, I left NRD.
? How have you landed at SEB?
I did not do anything special for this. Just turned on “Open to work” status on my LinkedIn and recruiters started sending me their proposals in direct massages. I chose SEB, because I wanted to work on big, complex projects that had good practices applied. It was well-paid from the beginning and every year I had a decent salary increase.
? What brought you from SEB to Telia?
Saying frankly, I was happy working at SEB, but Telia’s recruiter approached me with the offer that was impossible to reject.
? Have you been aiming to work 100% remotely during your career?
Yes, I have.
? Employer’s reaction?
Some employers preferred that I go to the office at least 2 days per week, but most adapt to not lose good employees.
? Though your track looks very clean and super-efficient, if you were able to get back to the March of 2020, would you change anything?
I would probably avoid companies that mostly work with public sector projects.
? In your opinion, what are the core mistakes of guys, who face difficulties in job search?
I had to interview some people who wanted to join SEB as software engineers and main things are:
They wanted a salary that clearly did not meet their qualifications. After they stated the salary, I started asking hard technical questions and they could not answer any.
They lied about their qualifications. For example, some candidates stated they were professional in some technologies, but after some easy questions it was clear they weren’t.

12 个月The act of lying, especially during tech interviews, is detrimental. However, a prevalent problem is that individuals often fabricate their experiences and skill sets. Unfortunately, recruiters sometimes fail to discern these falsehoods and prefer candidates who exaggerate their qualifications. As a result, genuinely qualified candidates are overlooked, unable to reach tech interviews.
