Zero is the real Hero !

Zero is the real Hero !

This article is dedicated to a mathematical concept called zero and its importance in modern era.

Let's take a moment to peep into the history and appreciate the work done by the great mathematicians who basically invented "Nothing" and those who created something out of that very same "Nothing" .

  • Before 5th Century : Natural numbers ? o?? Counting: 1,2,3…., Numbers being used for countingo?? o Addition: Any two natural numbers you add will result into another natural number , the set of natural numbers is closed on operation called addition o Multiplication: Any two natural numbers you multiply will result into another natural number , so multiplication is closed over the set of natural numbers !!
  • 5th Century : Aryabhatta Era - Whole Numberso?? Subtraction - if I have 5 cows and I sell 5 cows to a friend, how many cows I am left with? ?Subtraction is not closed in a set of natural numbers …. a concept of zero pops outAryabhatta , a well-known mathematician from India introduced zero in the decimal number system and extended it from a set of natural numbers to whole numbers.? He decided to use “.” to represent Shunya (zero)
  • 6th Century : A century later, another Indian mathematician named Bramhaputra?started using Shuya (zero) in mathematical operations like addition , subtraction , multiplication ?and defined rules for the usage .
  • 7th Century :? Around ?773 AD, the mathematician named ?Mohammad ibn-Musa al-Khowarizmi studied and synthesized Indian arithmetic and showed how zero functioned in the system of formulas he called it ‘al-jabr’—today known as algebra.
  • 12th Century: ?Around 1200 AD, Italian mathematician Fibonacci introduced zero in Europe
  • 15th Century: ?Introduction of Integers - Subtraction operation closed
  • 18th Century: Introduction of Real Numbers- Division operation closed
  • 21st Century: ?Back to square zero – worldwide acknowledgement of power of zero

o?? Zero emission ( Gas & Noise) ?– Green Mobility

o?? Zero Accidents – ADAS

o?? Zero Driving ?Efforts – Autonomy

o?? Zero Mechanical Linkages – Drive by Wire

o?? Zero Trust – Cyber Security

o?? Zero Failures - Functional Safety

o?? Zero unsafe scenarios – SOTIF

o?? Zero Cost – For software features via SDV

Concept of Zero being so close to heart of Indians , it’s no wonder that Belrise Industries (formerly Badve Engineering) - EV and Starkenn Technologies we have ?developed several products in the area of EV like Motors , Motor Controllers , Battery Management Systems , Chargers and in the area of ADAS like AEBS , DMS and RADAR to contribute towards global mission zero.

It goes without saying that all our products are designed ?to meet highest applicable norms of ?safety and security to make them reliable , robust , fail operational ?& secure .

We do this because we believe in fact that “ Every zero matters as every life ?counts

The humble digit we often take for granted, holds immense significance in multiple domains. The invention of zero revolutionized mathematics, enabling complex calculations and paving the way for advanced scientific discoveries. It's remarkable how such a simple concept could have such a profound impact on human progress. The concept of zero emission and zero accidents are not just a lofty ideal but an achievable goal through advanced technologies like autonomous driving, predictive analytics, and intelligent safety systems. By embracing zero as the ultimate objective, we can prioritize safety and strive for accident-free roads. Thank you Koustubh Tilak for one more wonderful post.
