Zero Hour

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article called Gadget Free Hour. As expected, probably most of my friends chose to neglect the same, except two friends, who claimed that they wanted to impose something like this in the house, though didn't know where to start!!

Do we realise how much time these gadgets take away from our daily life? I am sure Google will have some number somewhere, but it's time we take this matter seriously. The reason is that time is finite and time spent on something is lost somewhere else.

Let me divert this discussion to office. How many of us don't read our mails or reply our mails; how many people ask for the same information which is already there in the mail; how many of us don't want to read long reports and so on. The reason --? Simple NO TIME. Why? Again that time has been spent somewhere else. I guess those gadgets - we can't live without!!!

I guess, it is a universal problem- people have stopped reading.

I remember my dad would never sleep in the night until unless he reads at least few pages. Somehow I developed that habit and thankfully my son too. How many of us read books? Thanks to Kindle and the likes, people have stopped even buying books, forget about reading. Does anyone still remember the smell of new books?

Again let't go the office. How many times do we read mails, reports promptly and make notes? Do we read in detail? Do we read those again and again? We all know, we don't, including me!!! Could we change this?

I have heard of couple of companies who make this compulsory. They call this period as ZERO HOUR. In this period, all staff is not supposed to talk to anyone, all mobiles are kept with secretaries, only main board and one receptionist will talk to the outside world. All staff is supposed to read and only read. Should not talk to anyone, read and make notes.

Does this sound barbaric or practically impossible or we all read everything? Does anyone want to try? Trust me, it works and increases efficiency!!!

Why not make a new year resolution? Happy new Year!!!
