UN Environment Programme
released the 'zero draft' of the Global Treaty addressing plastic pollution. With 175 countries participating in the formulation of the Treaty, it is the single biggest synchronized environmental action since the Paris Agreement. Everyone in the plastics value chain will be affected by the end of 2024, one way or another.
- Nigel Waweru, 10-years old, spoke at the Africa Climate Action Summit last week. Nigel is spreading the message about the need for a healthy and clean marine life. He is mobilizing his community in Nakuru City, Kenya and neighboring ones to combat plastic waste. Nigel is becoming an African symbol in the waste management space and showing that even someone so young, can make a powerful difference.
- Subway has launched a new range of uniforms - made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Expect to see these uniforms in more than 2,300 restaurants in the UK and Ireland in 2023.
- Consumer Council in Hong Kong has found that online retailers are shrugging off an environmental law by not imposing a mandated levy per plastic bag. Yet, authorities have reported a drop in number of plastic bags in distribution.
- PepsiCo CSO, Jim Andres, talks with Forbes about their sustainability programme “PepsiCo Positive”, the challenges in achieving circularity, and his hope and rallying call for global plastic circularity.??
