Zangwill: Redefining the Blues
Each generation produces only a few musical performers that contribute popular and long-lasting changes in the music industry. This select and talented group of singers, songwriters and performers - often Grammy winners - share with audiences unique and creative traits: expressive vocal sounds, an ability to compose music and write their own lyrics, and finally, charisma…a mystical aura that enshrouds them and says...this is me!
"I’ve always loved music, Since I appeared on AGT 3 years ago I’ve gone from playing other people’s music to writing and recording my own. I’m growing musically month-to-month and loving every minute of it. Also, I’m a foot taller!" ~Dylan Zangwill??
Dylan Zangwill is one of those musical artists that has everything, including charisma. In his newest music video, just released two days ago, you get the very real perception, that it’s not the cameraman pushing Dylan backward across the quaint footbridge in the provocative opening shot of BETTER…it’s the Chica, the blue's maker, that he sings about - who’s has just jilted him - who is chasing him across that bridge. Here's Dylan Zangwill’s June 21, 2024 original music video, BETTER, with audio recorded at Johnny Cash’s, Cash Cabin Studio in Nashville, and produced by John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash's only son. Video produced near Dylan’s home in Chester County, Pennsylvania and edited by the amazing 17-year-old:
Yes, those are Dylan's hands hammering out chords on his authentic Hammond organ. Bang! Dylan Zangwill, 17-year-old blues singer-songwriter-performer from Exton, Pennsylvania in the Delaware Valley, just west of Philly, who has been performing his own music in his mom and dad’s brewery for six years. The popular Stolen Sun Craft Brewery & Roasting Company in Exton is owned and operated by Dylan’s parents, Jonathan and Deirdre Zangwill. And while Stolen Sun has become famous across the Schuylkill River flowing along Philly the last six years, Dylan, himself, has rocketed to the edges of stardom in his own right. Just watch this:
Bittersweet Melody audio was also recorded at Johnny Cash’s Cash Cabin Studio, and produced by John Carter Cash, who has overseen and produced music there since Johnny Cash passed away ten years ago.
Dylan began playing the piano in the brewery - when it opened in 2018. But his talents go way back to 3rd grade when he began piano lessons. He and his family have lived in Exton all of his life. Recently, he added a bluesy Hammond organ backup to many of his original songs and plays acoustic guitar, as well. Below is a 2024 club performance of a recent dream come true…Dylan Zangwill organized an event called “Dylan and the Dead” where he plays the Hammond organ while singing Bob Dylan’s 1979, Gotta Serve Somebody, a song which won Bob Dylan a Grammy in 1980. ?Just watch, as 5,400 other YouTubers have...how our 17-year-old prodigy Dylan Zangwill interprets the 83-year-old blues genius, Bob Dylan’s music:
Dylan and I had an opportunity to chat about his idol, Bob Dylan...
"The most inspiring part about Bob Dylan to me is that he does what he wants to do and doesn’t do what he doesn’t want to do. I’ve always really respected how Dylan was constantly reinventing himself, his songs, his concerts, and his image. Also, I’m named after the guy so there’s that!" ~ Dylan Zangwill
As a journalist and music reviewer, I am not sure where a 17-year-old gets the internal emotional depth to understand blues music. ?Where did it come from? Here is what Dylan told me about his music writing and his audience...
"When my audience hears my original music, I hope they feel the same as I do - when I write and perform those songs. It’s a feeling I can’t really explain." ~ Dylan Zangwill
As young Dylan slaps away at his prized black and white Hammond keys, alongside five additional and experienced blues musicians, you gotta know this teenager has innate qualities and feelings that are soaked through-and-through within his DNA genetic makeup. It’s just there. Here is Dylan Zangwill’s tribute to Willie Nelson and cover of Nelson's classic 1975 song, with 5,500 YouTube views Time of the Preacher…

Two years ago, Dylan Zangwill won a golden ticket to audition on America’s Got Talent, and he received a resounding standing ovation, but did not advance. That’s okay, because in the last 24 months the young man from Exton, Pennsylvania, that 17 year-old that looks like he just stepped out of the 1970’s and sounds like a qualified movie understudy for Bob Dylan, James Taylor or Willie Nelson has been recording his own songs, in his own original style. Bravo Dylan!
Soon everyone will know you anyway, Dylan. And maybe one of those guys will open for YOU.
Dylan’s next performance is at Woodbury, New Jersey on Friday, June 28, 2024. He has played dozens of gigs in 2024, often thousands of miles from home. For more information on Dylan and his performance dates visit: www.dylanzangwill.com

Dylan’s younger brother Zane plays electric bass, sings, and has performed with Dylan in videos and in performances. His mom and dad have inspired greatness in their kids. We are all amazed and the days are coming very soon when Dylan Zangwill is an international entertainer. When Willie Nelson or Bob Dylan ask Dylan Zangwill to open for them…I will be there.
