#YuMi and me @ FU.SE 2019

What does a two day immersion into the #FutureOfWork @FU.SE leave behind..?
- First: if the #Future like the #Present will take place on Planet Earth, then there will always be “privileged spots” where the sun shines for the right reasons, where the food is just extraterrestrial and where all things electronic have a different pace: thank you #Milan for welcoming us! Having said that: the privileged insights into #Singapore will prompt a wave of citizenship-requests, no doubt.
- Second: yes: the #FoW is about #People, and per se there is merit in “just being” – but in #Future it is about “doing”. Co-create, shape, drive. It’s #TimetoAct. Use the times when you sit back to replenish and upload your own batteries, or to life-long-learn. Having said that: kudos to Sangheon who shared how the reveal to his teenage son that he better brace himself to life-long-learn led to a reaction of outrage, as all the son could think about is a life composed of a-never-ending cycle of perpetual homework…
- Third: there will be more work than ever, for all of us. It’s the question of whether its output can feed you and “buy" you your own #Present and #Future that needs to be solved. We’re onto that as the consensus grows that the frameworks need to be tackled to allow for #Flexibility and #Security to coexist. With that said: this is the one major challenge Government & Employers & Workers need to get right!
- Fourth: Yes: #WoMen and #Robots will co-exist. They will complement each other. Having an espresso made by #YuMi exemplifies it all: I had to trigger #YuMi. (that is important: take a moment to let that sink in…) #YuMi then was “on a roll” and smoothly and seemingly unstoppably unwrapped every motion necessary to come up with the end product. What struck me: it still took 90 seconds – which I almost used to meditate, clearly to decelerate as I was a “bystander” myself. And my revelation was not about #ArtificialIntelligence, but my own “Thought Processing Capabilities”…: by watching #YuMi and anticipating its next steps, I realized that I had forgotten to place a cup into the cupholder. After a stint of cold sweat and self-doubt at my own #MachineLearning capabilities, I took a leap of Faith and acted by grabbing a cup and placing it at exactly the right angle under the @Nescafé coffee machine. The outcome: success! The espresso was perfect – actually: it tasted as good as thousands of others I have had before. Nothing more to say here…
So what’s the verdict….? Can't wait for the #FutureOfWork….

6 年Thanks for sharing your insights, Bettina, after what seems to have been inspiring meetings and exchanges in Milan! The #FoW is also something that keeps us busy at #SwissRe. One of our key challenges is how to stay attractive as an employer in an ever fiercer global competition for the best talents. Part of our approach is to provide inspiring workplaces and a flexible working environment that can accommodate the needs of males and females, working mothers and fathers, part-and full-time employees and people form the four corners of the earth coming together to create new solutions for risk-transfer that help our clients thrive. We believe that Swiss Re Next, our new Headquarters building on the lakefront in Zurich, is indeed future-proof. It was designed and built in support of our ambition to provide inspiring workplaces for inspired work. Check it out the virtual tour at https://bit.ly/2EjwPnn? Our #FoW also includes touch-screen-operated coffee machines, interactive chat-bots, about a dozen robots (for the more boring stuff and to relieve our colleagues of standard tasks so they can turn to more value-adding ones). We're confident that a new balance will emerge and that the human brain's capacity to come up with innovative solutions for tomorrow's problems will keep us in business. Fingers crossed!
