YukonDB: An Open-source Spatial Database
Since the emergence of cartography and remote sensing image processing in the 1970s, geographic informatization and digitization have developed rapidly, and the core behind it is the geospatial database. Especially with the wide application of IoT and 5G, from navigation, express delivery, and food delivery to smart cities, digital twins, and metaverse. The breadth and depth of geospatial database applications continue to expand.
At the same time, the management of massive spatial data, efficient near real-time data processing, support for complex geospatial data types, and the need for high business availability and data security promote the progress and development of spatial databases.
At present, the development of open source databases in China is flourishing, and open source is of great significance to the development of the database industry. Open source databases tend to have lower up-front licensing and maintenance costs. Based on the open source community, databases can continuously innovate and integrate new functions. At the same time, since open source databases mainly rely on community contributions, they are more open, inclusive, stable and trustworthy.
On the morning of June 29, 2022, at the "2022 (Fifth) GIS Software Technology Conference", the Yukon open source spatial database launched by SuperMap and Huawei's openGauss community officially appeared.
PostgreSQL is currently the most advanced open source relational database in the world. PostgreSQL increases spatial data processing capabilities through PostGIS extension plug-ins. However, the upgrade of PostGIS data model is slow, and the 3D model data type is not yet supported. Yukon can provide storage, calculation and management capabilities of spatial data, and for domestic GIS application requirements, it supports two-dimensional and three-dimensional integrated spatial data models including three-dimensional model data, builds two-dimensional integrated storage, calculation, and management capabilities.

Yukon spatial database has been deeply integrated with SuperMap GIS 11i (2022) products, which can be deployed with one click of SuperMap iManager, and the components, desktop and server products of SuperMap can also fully support Yukon.
The latest package of Yukon can be accessed in https://gitee.com/isupermap/yukon4pgsql for the PostgreSQL variant and in https://gitee.com/opengauss/Yukon for the opengauss variant.?The official installation documentation can be found here https://yukon.supermap.io/installation.html. Currently, Yukon only support Linux OS such as centos_x86_64, openeuler_aarch64, openeuler_x86_64. But, if you are using Windows or MacOS, you can try the docker version which can be found here https://hub.docker.com/r/supermap/yukon

2 年Not fully agree that PostgreSQL (and its PostGIS) does not support 3D data model. As it supports 3D data model through its PostGIS SCFGAL library, we are able to store and work with 3D data in our GIS desktop application.
