It’s no surprise that the steel and engineering industry is dominated by males, so I was determined to breakthrough and represent women in the sector. I opened my business in 2019 just before the world was dealt with Covid-19, so I had to work incredibly hard to really capitalise on the opportunities provided to my business.
?2. What do you most enjoy about the industry?
I really enjoy the complexity of the engineering process, and I am driven to make sure I learn something new every day, as there is always so much to grasp. Despite only being in the industry for seven years I still grow as an engineer every day.

I thrive on the many challenges that come from working in the industry – although it’s difficult at times it is equally as rewarding.

Being in a leadership and management position fills me with pride and I’m driven by a deep sense of responsibility. It is important for me to be able to provide opportunities to young people, especially women. But at the end of the day, it is what people do with an opportunity that really matters. In my opinion it’s about consistency and passion.
?4. What would you say to other youth who have an interest in working in the steel industry?
The industry requires you to be skilled so my advice to youngsters is to work hard, go to school, and get a technical skill. In doing so you will acquire the knowledge and background required to face the many challenges that the industry poses.
