Youth can play a pivotal role in the East Africa Regional Integration

Last week, the East African County and Local Governments Association (EACLGA) Secretary-General Gertrude Rose Gamwera Buyinga , addressed students at the Kampala International University Public Lecture on Regional Integration and Uganda's Foreign Policy. The discussion focused on the immense opportunities that the East African Community Integration offers to young people.

The Secretary-General highlighted the importance of youth working in tandem with local governments to contribute to this vital regional initiative. In her key message, she urged the students to leverage existing governance structures and networks to actively participate and represent their interests. This, she emphasized, would build their capacities, expand their knowledge, and significantly impact the future of regional integration in East Africa.

Additionally, the Secretary-General called on the students to advocate for the establishment of professional International Relations Services within local governments. She explained that given our increasing interconnectedness, these services are essential for effective engagement with the global community.

EACLGA is committed to empowering and supporting youths to actively participate in regional integration, ensuring that no one is left behind. We believe that by harnessing the energy, creativity, and innovative ideas of young people, we can accelerate progress towards a more integrated, prosperous, and equitable East Africa.
