If You're Not Who You Want To Be Then You Need To Do This

We all have an idealistic sense of who we want to be. Rich, famous, calm or respected.
The human psyche takes time to catch up to what we deem to be our ideal states, often clinging to its past self for comfort and security.
But, if you’re to elevate to the next level you need to let go of your past. Embrace the uncertain, the new and the challenging moments that ensue.
Only when you let go of who you are, can you become who you’re meant to be!
Hi, my name is...
Old school knowledge this one. You become the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with.
At face value, it seems an unintelligent observation, but it’s only until you make an unbiased evaluation do you realise its truth.
Humans are social creatures, we yearn for compassion, community and care, we want to feel a part of a family, and it’s why we conform to social norms when surrounded by certain people.
Have you ever noticed how certain groups of people all act, speak, and even dress the same?
I remember my mom asking me as a kid; ‘if all your friends jumped off a cliff would you do it too?’ I’m sure you can work out what my answer was.
The company you keep plays a decisive role in shaping what you do, how you act and who you become.
The impressions left on you by those closest to end up shaping the worldview you develop.
Choose good company or face the consequences.
It’s that simple.
But I Can’t
It’s too hard.
I can’t do it.
I’ll try something else.
These are the three most notorious phrases that come from our mouths
Through procrastination and self-doubt, you persuade yourself that the task at hand is impossible.
In reality, all it takes is a little time and effort.
We’ve been groomed and trained to seek comfort. But in an era of overabundance comfort is the new drug, a slow, yet silent killer.
Instead of attacking what lies in front of us, we seek the easy route, the quick hits of deathful dopamine, when we need to engage in those tasks which impel us to produce our best.
Like a bodybuilder, struggle and pain both lead to growth.
Start embracing them!

Time Out
When was the last time you were alone?
And when I say alone, I don’t mean distancing yourself from people.
When was the last time you didn’t take your phone everywhere you went?
Since Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone, phone usage and internet usage have increased exponentially.
The digital world has become intertwined with our lives, and it’s taking over others.
A huge chunk of us spends more time in this makeshift universe rather than embracing reality.
It’s a shame because the wonders of the world and the beauty of life are what matter. Not the fairytale world of likes, comments and followers.
Most people will reach for a charger before their phone dies, but very few will reach for a plan before their dreams die.
Don’t let this be you.
Follow your story
Life is full of opinions.
Your parents, your spouse, and your friends all think they know what’s best for you. The truth is most of them don’t even know what’s best for themselves.
Don’t get me wrong, they have your interest at heart, I’m sure they only want the best for you.
But what’s best for you in their minds is normally a projection of the things they wish they had done.
The truth is, the only story that matters is the one you tell yourself.
Nobody knows what it’s like to be you. Nobody has your dreams, your aspirations and your desires.
Opinions are neither good nor bad, they just are. But blindly following them is a recipe for disaster.
Listen to your heart. It knows best.
Conclusion
The person you want to become is right around the corner. A few months of dedication, isolation and exploration will allow you to discover yourself.
And when you do you’ll come back with a clearer vision and a new pathway to a better life.
Letting go of who you once were can be daunting, but it’s the things we’re most afraid to do that lead us to beautiful destinations.
Ask yourself, how much longer are you going to wait until you demand the best from yourself?
And now…
