PART 2: Why are you wasting your time creating content on social media? [Episode 2 of 3]

?? Hi, it’s Jesse!

Every week I give you a professional tip on social media, tested and proven.

+ A social media weekly sum up in just 1 minute ? (because I know you don't have time).

Join us if you want to boost your online visibility , it's once a week, we only do it quickly and efficiently!

This week, Insta wants no more politics, TikTok is accelerating in music, and Elon has deceived us again...

  • Instagram continues to work on "Friend Map ": the ability to leave notes for friends on a map.
  • Testing a new "Buy " sticker for Stories.
  • Instagram will soon allow us to share saved collections on our profile publicly.
  • Launching a new AI sticker "Backdrop " to create alternative image backgrounds in stories and feed.
  • Instagram has become one of the main news sources for millennials and Gen Z, but the platform doesn't want this because it aims to separate from political content. Some news influencers have seen their reach drop by 26% following the latest algorithm update (as I often repeat, it's essential to secure your audience; news influencers will have to turn to other platforms, newsletters, or podcasts to continue growing and avoid losing their audience).
  • Instagram is expanding access to its marketplace for influencers and brands, now accessible in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Japan, India, and Brazil.

  • TikTok is launching a new feature that allows users to add a song from the app to services like Apple Music and Spotify.
  • The company is seeking to develop influencers capable of driving sales for TikTok Shop through the "Star Creator " program, aiming to replicate the model that works in China on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok).
  • TikTok wants to encourage us to post photos and is encouraging users to publish photo carousels rather than videos. According to TikTok, photo posts can receive an average of 2.9 times more comments, 1.9 times more likes, and 2.6 times more shares than videos (personally, I've tested it, no change, feel free to share your experience if you see a difference on your end).

  • Mark Zuckerberg announced two new updates for Threads: drafts (to save a post in progress to edit later) and access to the camera directly within the app.

  • Pinterest has launched its 2024 trends (I'm clearly late on this, but it's worth checking out if you missed it too; the presentation is quite nice).
  • Pinterest is testing a new photo cropping feature.

  • A report suggests that the majority of traffic from X during the Super Bowl would be fake ...
  • X is testing image carousels , following the same principle as Threads (Threads copying X, now X copying Threads...)
  • X is in discussions for a partnership with Midjourney to generate images via AI.
  • X plans to launch Grok 1.5 update (Elon Musk's AI), which will allow for automatic summarization of long tweets.

  • Lady Gaga will headline the season 2 of the Fortnite Festival (Yes, it's time to start considering Fortnite as a social platform).

The creator economy largely dominated by women :

According to a recent report, female content creators and UGC represent 70% of total profiles.

The rise of female creators and user-generated content (UGC) reflects the evolution of the influencer marketing landscape , where authenticity and the ability to connect with the audience play a crucial role in audience engagement and brand success.

Female expression clearly has a head start and a better connection with the audience in the creator economy!

?? You're Wasting Your Time Creating Content on Social Media [Ep 2/3]

Last week, I explained why you're wasting your time creating content on social media and the formats to avoid in 2024. This week, I bring you the solutions.

If you missed last week's episode, you can find it here . I give you the list of mistakes we all make, so you can avoid wasting your time creating formats that don't convert.

This week, we're tackling the solutions.

Since I know you're short on time, let's dive right into 4 types of content to prioritize in 2024.

4 tips to follow + 1 bonus at the end.

As usual, these are suggestions based on my experience as a marketer and content creator, as well as feedback from my network (influencers, content creators, marketing pros, etc.).

I'm giving you the keys; it's up to you to open the doors.

That means you need to test and adapt to your own situation.

As I always say: every case is different, and the fancy formulas that promise "do this, it works every time" are bullshit.

If you need specific advice on your own case, contact me via Direct Message , and we'll discuss it with pleasure.

I even offer you a free 15-minute call to talk about it ?? (subject to availability on my calendar).

So, are you ready? Grab your coffee, let's do this!

?? Tip #1: Publish new and fresh content

Yes, I know, it's easy to say.

And you're also going to add that if it were that simple, everyone would do it.

Well, actually, it's not that complicated; you just have to not be lazy.

Your goal is to create original content that people haven't seen yet.

Content that's fresh.

How to find inspiration?

It's simple: do some monitoring.

Put yourself in observation, in research, in analysis.

No need to spend 3 full days a week.

Find sources of content related to your market, follow these sources, and spend a little time every day checking their latest publications (15 to 30 minutes a day).

This way, you'll gradually acquire an overview.

And you'll see that it will boost your creativity to get new fresh ideas.

There's nothing better than staying informed to stimulate your neurons.

And don't hesitate to talk about it with your network; the exchanges will also bring you a different perspective that you might not have thought of.

(There are also tricks and tools to help you with this; if you're interested, let me know in the comments).

??♀? Tip #2: Assert your own opinion

The best way to stand out is to be yourself.

Don't be afraid to assert your own opinion.

That's exactly what will make the difference.

Most people don't dare to, for fear of not being liked or of being wrong.

So let me be clear: having your own opinion doesn't mean acting like an arrogant jerk who knows everything about everything.

No, it means you know your subject, you master it, you believe in your experience and analysis.

But of course, you have to remain open and accept different points of view.

Knowing that everyone can be wrong, depending on trends, what is true today will be false tomorrow.

As they say: only fools never change their minds ??

Asserting your opinion is what will make you "remarkable", stand out from the crowd.

Why is Elon Musk so popular?

Because he asserts his opinion, he is divisive.

You like him, you don't.

Agree or disagree with him, in the end he is more followed than any other CEO because he stands out, we notice him, we talk about him.

(But beware of overestimating yourself and overconfidence, don't follow the same path as him, it was just for the example ??)

And this applies just as much to content creators as it does to brands.

Stand out, be yourself.

For a public figure, it's called "Personal Branding", for a brand, it's simply called "Branding" ??

? Tip #3: Stop trying to be a brand

Perfect transition from the previous tip: doing personal branding doesn't mean turning yourself into a brand.

Remain a content creator.

I don't know if you've noticed, but there's a rather "funny" trend:

  • Content creators often try to be ultra-professional (to resemble a brand).
  • Brands try to be more human (to resemble content creators).

If brands try to be more human, there's a good reason for it.

They're trying to appear more authentic, more real, because that's what the audience is looking for today: authenticity, simplicity.

It's more trustworthy. We trust someone who creates content but looks like they're doing it like everyone else (implying with their phone and a not overly professional outcome) rather than an advertisement.

So stop stressing about trying to achieve an ultra-professional final result.

Visual quality is important, yes, but focus on the value of your content and don't hesitate to have a final production that resembles what your neighbor could do if she were on a video call with her friend showing off her latest shopping spree.

???? Tip #4: Provide value, educate

Make sure people leave with something.

Just like I do here and in each of my newsletters: I bring you information (with "The news of the week") and "I educate" you (as in this second part dedicated to "Pro Tips").

Your experience, your expertise, your passion is what makes the difference and sets you apart from the majority.

Keep in mind that your audience is looking to be informed, entertained, and interested.

Become an expert in your field. If you spend more time staying informed and educating yourself than the majority of people, you will inevitably reach a higher level than average.

And if you're just starting out, thinking you don't have enough experience and knowledge, that's a false problem.

By creating content on a topic, take the opportunity to do in-depth research. This method will push you to learn things that you can then share with your audience.

You will inevitably boost your knowledge more quickly than others.

And in 2024, there are no more excuses. With all the AI tools available, it has become extremely accessible to obtain data, insights, and analysis for free.

Here are two AI tools that will help you get data and sources very easily: Perplexity and ScholarAI .

?? Bonus Tip: Go live!

Let me just give you some quick numbers:

  • Instagram: 100 million people watch live streams daily
  • YouTube: over 5 billion hours per year of live content
  • Facebook: Live content generates 3 times more engagement than "regular" content
  • LinkedIn: 7 times more reactions and 24 times more comments
  • Live streaming is a market worth $1.49 billion ($3.21 billion by 2027)
  • And 27% of users consume it

I won't re-explain everything; I dedicated an entire issue a few weeks ago about it , where I explain why live streaming is one of the last tricks that works to gain subscribers, with a bonus complete list of platforms to choose from based on your topic.

So, here you are once again full of new bullets to use for this week.

The general advice to remember: don't be afraid to be yourself; that's what will make yourself unique!

See you next week for the final episode of this serie; subscribe so you don't miss it .

Until then, remember, the most important is to enjoy what you do.
