You’re talking but nobody’s listening!

Social media can be a frustrating place when trying to market your business.

You’ve probably had the experience of investing your valuable time in creating great media content to promote your company and your great products or services… only to receive a few hundred views.

It leaves you wondering…

  • Are people really interested in what I do?
  • Do people not see the value in what I have to offer?
  • Is it worth me investing this much time in posting content?

It becomes a real problem for you and your business. You know from the example of so many other businesses that you need to have a presence on social media.

But when this problem persists, you begin to devalue your presence on social media and one of two things tends to happen…

  1. You decide it's not worth the effort and stop posting content
  2. You continue but the quality of the content greatly diminishes

Neither of these options above will work out well for you in the long term. So, what can you do about and what changes should you be making?

Here are some things to consider…

WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?

You need to understand who most typically buys your products or services. That typical customer/client begins to form your ideal client profile. The profile then informs your decisions when creating and promoting content online.

WHERE IS YOUR AUDIENCE

Now you need to find the fastest route to your ideal clients. Which platforms are they most likely to be using? If you are B2B then LinkedIn is a primary platform, if you are selling arts/crafts then Facebook is good. Do your homework and research the various platforms. Understand the typical demographics for each platform.

WHAT SHOULD YOU SAY?

Avoid the trap of just talking about yourself all the time on social media. Telling people how great your company is and how great your products or services are. Nobody is going to listen to you until you have a perceived value to them.

So, start talking about the ideal client's pain points. What are the things they are challenged by or struggling with that you know you can solve? Paint the picture of their present day and then paint the picture of a future with your solution in place.

When you talk to people’s pain, they will start to listen because you now have value to them.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE TALKING?

That depends upon the platform. To create a presence on platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok you need to consider posting multiple times a day. On platforms like LinkedIn you only need to post once a day. So, again do your research and understand what it will take to have an impact on your chosen channels.

A few tips that will help…

  • Plan for your social media content ahead of time
  • Vary your content, don't post the same type all the time. Switch between video, images, PDFs, etc.
  • Talk to your audience like you would a friend
  • Post early in the day to capture the most engagement
  • Interact with people who engage with your content
  • Interact with the content of your ideal clients
