Whatever career you find yourself in, there's definitely something peculiar about it, so why not tell everyone?
One of the things I've realized about building a personal brand is:
"You don't need followers, you need fans."
You want to have people who like you for who you are, support you, and buy from you.
Don't get up in the chase for more followers when you can barely connect with the ones you have.
My suggestion is, when you're starting out, don't try to appeal to a general audience.
Target a specific group of people that your content and values align with.
If you want to be known for something, start talking about it.
And whatever topic you pick, please have an interest in it.
You don't want to run out of steam after a few months.
Here's why you should have genuine interest in the topics you want to build your brand around:
If you like something, your approach to it will be different.
You won't see it as something you HAVE to do; rather, it's something you WANT to do.
Getting content ideas won't be difficult, as you'll find yourself constantly reading and learning about the topics.
For example, I love marketing, and I try to stay up to date with the latest trends in the industry.
I subscribe to newsletters, read blog posts, and follow topics on marketing on social media.
Most times I find myself studying the marketing strategy of a brand, offline or online.

Back to the intro...
What's that thing you do that you want to share with the world?
You'll be surprised that there are plenty of people who want to listen to you.
Ignore the likes and follower count for now.
Focus on connecting with the people who truly understand you.
But there's a lot more to community building than just sharing kickass content.
The energy you give is the same you'll get.
If you want to stay at the top, you have to do more than the average person.
Your personal brand should be a plant that you nurture every day until it grows big.
And when it gets very big, you won't have to do much to sustain it.
It starts to take care of itself.
I don't have everything figured out, and I learn every step of the way.
What's holding you back?
You've been reading Trekking the Marketing Path for three months now. Thank you so much for your support.
What do you like about it, and what type of content do you want to see more of?

1 年A few lightbulb moments here, i.e. connect with the people who truly understand you. WHY though, do so many newsletters, etc. fail (although I know there's no single answer) - a true love of subject matter, misreading your audience, lack of belief in self? Helen, N.Z.
