You're Making Your Unemployment Job Search Fail By Doing These Things

Unemployment job search is tough.

In addition to employer bias, there are probably things in your resume and job search strategy that make it worse.

While you can't control what employers do, you've got to control what you can control, in order to make your unemployment job search faster.

Here are a few of the ways you make your unemployment job search fail:

  1. Lack Of Resume Customization: When you invest little time (tweaks) or no time customizing your resume for the hiring manager's needs, your resume is being blocked by automated screening and human review. Different hiring managers have very different needs, even when you apply for the same job function and industry, and employers see many more qualified candidates than interview spots.
  2. Giving The First Impression That You're?Qualified: Employers expect to see 5-10 qualified candidates competing for each interview spot (50-100 qualified candidates competing for 10 interview spots). Appearing qualified isn't enough to make you special to a hiring manager, nor does it show you can meet their needs. Hiring managers make hiring decisions based on 3 basic criteria: Do you understand and have already solved my current problems? Do you have a strong track record of improving teams? Can I trust you? Because qualifications do not prove any of these 3 criteria to hiring managers, you need to do a better job in expressing these 3 things in your resume and interview. The good news is that anyone can learn how.?
  3. Applying To Many Jobs And Hoping You Get Lucky: This rarely works (for less than 10% of all job seekers, and even fewer unemployed job seekers). Instead, this strategy means that you'll spend a lot of time with activities that have low chances of success. Do you think that making more of the same mistakes that keep you unemployment job search slow will magically work?

Be honest ... how many of these unemployment job search failures are in your job search?

The good news is that you don't have to keep failing. You have the ability to change your unemployment job search to make it faster by learning what works, and avoiding what fails.
