By the time the Christmas tree is taken down, the tinsel is back in its box in the loft, and the last mince pie has been consumed, you know that there’s little to look forward to in terms of warm weather until the clocks go forward. And even then, April’s showers can dampen even that.
Yes, the days are getting longer, but if you’re anything like me, you yearn for the time when the sun's rays will be on your back.
Thousands of Brits escape at least some of the winter blues by booking a trip to several ‘winter sun’ destinations.
Some go to the Canary Islands. Others, to Barbados or the Caribbean, and many go to Dubai.
But there is another destination that is increasingly attracting those who’re looking for some winter sun but at a more convenient price than Dubai, or the Caribbean: Qatar.
With over 560km of coastline, and beautiful beach weather for much of the year (January’s average highs are 22°c and March highs are 26°c!), Qatar is an ideal destination for unforgettable beach holidays away from our horrible winter weather at home.
With so much coastline, beach culture is part of the country’s DNA. So whether you prefer to soak up the sun with a book or let the kids entertain themselves safely, the country’s beaches, both public and private are the best place to do it.
But don’t think it’s all about the beach, there’s plenty more entertainment.

And for anyone who’s a real adrenaline junky, why not explore the fantastic world of Doha Quest?

The best way to explore the flora and fauna of the country’s magnificent natural reserves at the Inland Sea and Al Thakira Mangroves is by kayak. I can offer sunrise and moonlit trips along with training, equipment and guides.
