“If you’re feeling low, don’t despair. The sun has a sinking spell every night, but it comes back up every morning.”

On the heels of relentlessly positive, I’m in a funk. This post is a day late. Work is hard. Just hard. I and my team need to and are trying to make changes to the way we’ve operated for the last few years. It’s not that we haven’t been successful – we have! It’s that I know we can be and do more. The organization around us is changing, and we need to change with it. It’s hard.? For all of us. I’ve also had a big disappointment on a personal project that’s left me heartbroken. Nothing’s really wrong, yet everything feels just a bit off. I know I feel off. And I know I’m not at my best right now.? I hope I’m faking it well enough where I need to!

This morning it occurred to me that a big chunk of this feeling is likely tied to isolation. My professional “home” – our local office – closed as our building was purchased and is being redeveloped. We’re on the hunt for our next space, but it’ll be a long while before contracts are signed and buildout is complete. In the meantime, we have space that we can use, but it’s a bit less convenient for most of the people who normally came into our office, so my ‘crew’ is unlikely to be there. So, I’m on my fourth week of only being in my home office. A lovely space, to be sure. But it’s pretty lonely for someone who thrives on being with her colleagues and feeling the energy of others.

So instead of beating myself up for everything just feeling hard right now, I’m going to listen to Dolly. It’s a new day and I can make plans to work with a friend in a co-working space next week. I can plan lunch or coffee or a walk with a friend. Mostly, I can give myself some grace and time and realize that not everyday will be my best. And that’s ok. The great news is that tomorrow is a new chance for a great day.

Be like Dolly. Remember the sun rises every day.
