If you're an Engineering graduate & unemployed, get in here.
I have a task for you that might get you a job & it's simple.
Tendering. That's the word right there. Preparing technical documents that win contracts for companies.
What keeps oil & gas, services companies and EPCIC in business is contracts, the ability to consistently win and execute contracts. But what wins contracts? Many things, in addition to a well-prepared tender or bid. Whether it’s a Request for Quotation (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP) or invitation to tender (ITD), these companies are always preparing tenders & bidding on contracts around the clock – tweaking, editing and preparing technical reports surrounding the project or contract.
Herein, lies the opportunity. A lot of these companies can always use an extra set of hands, while smaller companies won’t mind outsourcing it out, provided the writer is good. The reason employers prefer graduates with engineering background is because most of these contracts involve technical projects or services, thus engineers can understand things easier.
This is what I want you to learn and build expertise in, in the next few months and I’d tell you how. Become a bid or tender writer. At the end of the day, you can either work for yourself or work for a company. To help you, I have compiled these free online courses, you can find more on Youtube. Take the courses, and practice.
Next – Research the project bids that generally win in Nigeria. Here, you’re reviewing bids & tenders for contracts that were won and executed in Nigeria. This is to help you familiarize with what is expected and accepted in Nigeria and specific industries. Where can you find some of these? From project managers. Try and play around with them. Visit BPP portal https://nocopo.bpp.gov.ng/noc/frmCitizenDashBoard.aspx… and see open contracts, then try and write tenders or prepare hypothetical bid for them according to the requirements stated.
Next, research the type of companies I mentioned and reach out to them, unless you want to be a freelancer. You don’t wanna know how much some of these companies pay freelance writers especially when it’s urgent.
