You're boss of your Company, or not?

You're boss of your Company, or not?

LinkedIn has a new CEO, he didn't have to go through a job interview...

The 'normal' World...

  • As CEO of your company you are in control.
  • Your Employees can show they work for you on LinkedIn.
  • When they leave they write 'past' in their Experience section.

The 'LinkedIn' World...

  • You can be CEO of your Company but...
  • I can be the CEO as well, or the CEO of the CEO...
  • I can be the Head of Global Product Company Page.

...and there's nothing you can do about it...except filing a report and ask LinkedIn to remove me from your Company page. This can be a tedious task to fulfill.

Petition for Control
Petition for Control on LinkedIn Company Pages

On February 7th I published this 'Petition' post, many responded, thanks for your support. The 'LinkedIn world' is the real world on this platform and I (and many with me) don't get it.

I've been active on this platform since August 2009 and have helped many with improving their LinkedIn presence and visibility. I think the world of LinkedIn...but there's always room for improvement and challenges to solve mistakes when we see one.

A few experiences shared as a comment to my previous post:

"When I was the head of News Department at the second largest radio broadcast in Poland, someone wrote in his resume on LinkedIn that he worked at Radio Zet (but he didn't), someone else stopped working, but on LinkedIn he still had published with Rad Zet in his description."

"I’ve had a few clients who have had problems with people saying they work for them when they don’t. It’s crazy."

"My client had employees that retired or moved on and they refused to take themselves off the page and it took months to get them removed."

"I had reported an impersonation account of our company managing partner on Dec 12 2021. But that account still exists with 500+ connections."

"I had one client whose Page had 350 employees but they in reality had only 35! A close friend has just been scammed out of £100K GBP by someone whose LinkedIn profile shows he worked previously at Merrill Lynch."

Just a few examples on how it should not work. So what are the solutions? I don't work for LinkedIn, I'm not your techie engineer or tech wizard but you must have ideas on how to solve this issue and let us be boss on our own (Company) pages. Employee Verification by checking the domain email has been mentioned by many. Some accounts use their private email address but as I just said there must be other solutions.

To finish off, a few more things to consider on why to solve this issue with Fake Employees:

  • Think of Brand reputation.
  • Think about Recruiters presenting the wrong candidates

Thanks LinkedIn for a fast reply and solution.

Hi my name is Guy, I've been an independent LinkedIn strategist since 2009. Due to my international background (Dutch, French, Belgium and Hungarian), connecting lies within my DNA. Based in the Netherlands, work globally, e.g. international Sales Teams.

This is my 2nd #Newsletter.... Go ahead and subscribe! Feel free to follow #LinkedInbyGuy as well, my personal hashtag. I like to finish off with something I learned from my father... "the more languages you speak, the more people you will meet." Stay safe, have a great day!

Happy to connect on LinkedIn but do add a human note. A personal video to finish...https://bit.ly/2tPsftF?

Perhaps Guy we should all add CEO of LinkedIn to our profiles? That might get this problem fixed faster than greased lightening!

LinkedIn partially addressed this issue by requiring employee verification to access the company tab or post a job but this does not fix the problem you highlight. Let's keep campaigning until it is resolved Guy.
