If You're Already Feeling Behind in 2022, Don't Stress - I Got You

If You're Already Feeling Behind in 2022, Don't Stress - I Got You

As we ease back into work in 2022, these first couple of months can cause celebration for some and apathy or even disappointment for others.??

You or your connections might be announcing the new company they just joined or their recent promotion to a new role. Or you may still be wondering when your turn is coming.

In the next month or so, most corporate bosses are doing their compensation discussions with their direct reports, and you may be happy with the news or frustrated with their decision on your bonus, raise, stock, etc.?

Whether you're the one taking on a new role, venture or company in 2022 or the one feeling like the last one standing, it's natural to feel untethered.

And in the unsettling feeling of being out there facing either an unchartered path to success or by yourself wondering whether you should be making different moves before it's too late, you might let the uncertainty overcome you.

It's important to give yourself some grace during this time when everyone around you seems to be in a spirit of renewal and excitement to hit the new year differently than in past years. If you have that intrinsic momentum in you, that's great. Keep going.??

But if you already feel like you're getting swept up in thoughts of the people around you moving on faster and happier than you expected, then today, I invite you to take a pause.

Don't stress about regrets or anticipation of the future; allow this time to happen and don't judge yourself. Whatever you feel is real, and it's the right thing for right now. ?

I wish for you in these months that you can plan out your upcoming year with a clear head and champion yourself no matter what those around you are doing.

And if you need some reassurance and advice, I offer you some of my relevant writing in?Harvard Business Review?in case they help. Have a joyful week and be kind to yourself.

Great compilation of your work to start the year, Nihar. The Upside of Career Envy is one of my all-time HBR favorites! You’ve got a real talent for exploring deeply personal and challenging topics and encouraging us to wrestle with them instead of running away.
