You're Not Alone: Stay Connected with a Support Network

You're doing too much, and you know it. You're running your own business, and you’ve probably mastered the art of multi-tasking and juggling multiple roles—CEO, marketer, accountant, customer service rep, and let's be honest, probably a million other things too. It's empowering to know you can handle so much, but let’s keep it all the way real—it's also insanely overwhelming. No matter how stubborn or strong you are, trying to do it all alone can burn you out. That’s why a strong support network isn't just nice to have; it's a MUST-HAVE for women in business.

Shattering the Myth of the Superwoman Solopreneur

There’s a myth that successful women solopreneurs are superwomen who do it all on their own without breaking a sweat. Lies. I have yet to meet this woman. The truth is that even the most independent, resourceful women need a support system. Whether it’s confiding in a trusted friend, seeking advice from a mentor, or having a community that understands your unique challenges, your support network is your lifeline.

When I founded DotConnectHer, it wasn't just because I thought, "Hey, this might be a cool way to make some money." It's because I know firsthand how isolating it can be to navigate the entrepreneurial journey on your own. DotConnectHer is more than just a platform; it’s an online community that embodies the kind of support network I wished I had when I started. It’s about walking the walk, not just talking the talk.

A Support Network is Essential for Entrepreneurship

  • Perspective and Clarity: When you’re deep in the day-to-day, it’s easy to lose perspective. Your support network offers fresh eyes on your challenges, helping you see solutions and opportunities you might have missed. They help you navigate decisions with confidence and clarity.
  • Emotional Support: Look, entrepreneurship is an emotional rollercoaster. Having people who understand your journey—especially other women who get the unique challenges you face—can make all the difference. They’re there to lift you up when you need it and remind you that you’re not alone.
  • Skill Sharing: You’re awesome at what you do, but no one is an expert at everything. Your support network can fill in the gaps, offering expertise in areas where you might need a little help, whether it’s marketing, finances, or tech. I love watching DotConnectHer members share skills and knowledge, building each other up in ways that make them collectively stronger.
  • Accountability: When you’re your own boss, it’s easy to lose momentum without someone to keep you on track. A strong network provides that accountability. Whether it’s a formal mastermind group or a casual check-in with a business buddy, having someone to report to can keep you motivated and focused.
  • Opportunities and Connections: Networking isn’t just about who you know—it’s about who knows you. Your support network can open doors to new opportunities, introduce you to potential clients, partners, or collaborators, and sometimes provide that one connection that changes everything.

Building Your Network is a Long-Term Strategy

Building a support network won't happen overnight, so if you're searching for a short-term solution...this ain't it. It's taken me over a decade to build a network that works for me. But with intention and effort, you can cultivate a circle of supporters who are invested in your success.

  1. Start with Who You Know: Look around at your existing contacts—friends, colleagues, clients. Who among them shares your mission and vision? Who has experience you can learn from? Reach out, reconnect, and start nurturing those relationships.
  2. Join Women-Centric Communities: There are incredible communities out there designed specifically for women solopreneurs. Whether online or in-person, join groups where like-minded women gather. Engage, contribute, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. This is why I created DotConnectHer—a space where women can come together, share their journeys, and support one another.
  3. Seek Out Female Mentors: A mentor who has walked a similar path can be a game-changer. Find a woman whose journey you admire and who’s willing to share her wisdom. Don’t hesitate to approach someone you respect—many successful women are eager to uplift others.
  4. Offer Support: Building a network isn’t just about getting help—it’s also about giving it. Be generous with your time, knowledge, and resources. When you support other women, you build goodwill, and that often comes back to you in meaningful ways.
  5. Stay Connected: Once you’ve started building your network, keep those relationships alive. Regular check-ins, whether through coffee chats, Zoom meetings, or a simple text message, can keep your connections strong and meaningful. Remember, maintaining relationships is a two-way street.

You’re Stronger with Support

Flying solo shouldn't mean you have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. A strong support network is your sounding board, your safety net, and sometimes, your secret weapon. So, take the time to navigate and nurture those connections with other women. You’ll be amazed at how much stronger, more resilient, and successful you’ll become with the right people in your corner.

Remember, in business and in life, you’re not alone. With support on your side, you will have a network that works for you.
