This is Your Year to Step Into Your Calling

When you fully step into your calling and big mission, you can change the world. This is your year and your destiny is calling — Step into your calling.
Now, you might be thinking, “I don’t have time to put on my superhero cape and save the world. I have a mortgage and college tuition to figure out right now.”
Or, a whole host of other occurrences that take up a lot of time and energy in your life.
So, hear me out.
I have a deep belief that every person has a one-of-a-kind mission, and calling in life.
And, if you don’t step into your mission, the world misses out as you were uniquely tasked with this mission.
There are people right now in this world who have solutions to big problems in their local communities and the world that just are too afraid or too busy to step into their big mission and calling — and do what it takes to make a bigger difference in the world.
Every situation you have ever encountered has uniquely positioned you to live out that calling.
If you are part of the Upside family, your mission is probably bigger than most.
You are passionate about something to the point where it may even move you to tears.
This is how I feel when I am working with a client who realizes they are being called to be a leader worth following.
I get more emotional than in an everyday conversation about the weather or what to take out for dinner.
The excitement and energy that bubbles up inside me makes me sound like the best preacher giving a Sunday morning sermon.
I’m also moved to tears when I am standing at the crossroads saying “yes” to transformation, stretching my comfort zone beyond what I ever thought would be possible.
Sometimes I’m like a toddler looking into the kiddie pool with awe and wonder, deciding whether I will have the courage to jump in.
Today, I look back at my life and think, “Who me?” “What?” and “How did this all happen?!?”
Perhaps you’ve had this experience – or maybe you’re standing on the ledge ready to make the leap.
All I realize is that you were not called to live a small, uninspiring life.
For most people (myself included), it can be scary to stand in our own power and own who you are.
It can be scary to choose to bring your whole self to work.
It can be scary to choose to bring your whole self out into the world.
And, it can be scary to choose to be a leader in a world where leadership isn’t always celebrated.
Yes, I also got the messages, “Keep your head down. Don’t make waves. No one will like you if you say ‘that’.”
Yet, it’s critical in today’s world to stand up and step into your power so the world can benefit from your brilliance.
You have wisdom within you that the world needs and when you shy away from taking a stand and having conversations that may be difficult, the world misses out.
The world needs you to shine your light brightly.
When I reflect on the times in the past I didn’t have the courage to speak up, someone else suffered the consequences of my silence.
At home. In school. At work.
(Please forgive me.)
I made a commitment in my business years ago that I would not be a silent observer in the world as the world so desperately needs leaders worth following, making my own mission even more meaningful.
For the past 5 years at Design Your Destiny Live, I have shared the Marianne Williamson quote below as playing small doesn’t serve you, the people you love, your community, or the world.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
This is not a religious statement, rather one of accountability, responsibility – and love.
Your responsibility is to step into your own power – even if you don’t feel ready.
The how is not your business. (Something I learned years ago from a speaker at Design Your Destiny Live – and something I often share with clients.)
This means you get to be the brightest, shiniest, most real version of you that you are called to be.
The world needs you and your brilliance.
Action Item
The Upside Challenge of the week is to choose one situation to speak up about and share your truth.
People get behind where your heart lies, not your knowledge.
Take a stand for something.
Step into your big mission and calling.
…..because the world needs you and your brilliance.
