Your Writing Sucks! Or Maybe It doesn't? Just WRITE SOMETHING!

So, let's be completely honest about this. Even the most accomplished writers have bad days every now and then. In spite of the fact that I've been working as a writer/editor for many years, there are times when all I can think of is hot garbage that shouldn't be shown to the public. On a daily basis, thousands of bloggers, authors, and freelancers are confronted with this conundrum.
For a wide range of people, including professional writers, amateur writers, social media users, fan fiction authors, and even someone attempting to send an email to a close cousin, it is difficult to write well. It appears that everyone who takes up a pen or sits down at a laptop is affected by this surprising and seemingly all-consuming level of literary crappiness. In your head, you have some great content, but when it gets on paper or your computer screen, it downright sucks! Every experienced writer knows this and has ways to overcome it. That’s great news for people who write often, for people with a passion for writing, or those who are required to do it. These folks rarely get discouraged by writer’s block. They’ve dealt with it often enough that they've developed ways to work around it.
?????However, what about individuals who despise writing or aren't sure if they can do it? What are the major roadblocks in their path? Writer's block is the most likely culprit. For many authors, writer's block may be defined as an overpowering sense of being trapped in the writing process, with little capacity to progress or produce new work. Whether your writing is good or bad, is far less important than your incapacity to write nothing at all. There is a significant problem if you can't come up with a theme or a starting point for your essay, reports, or articles. To be honest, having writer’s block doesn’t mean you suck as a writer, but it does suck to have writer’s block. Again, writer’s block happens to everyone, even the best of writers.?
No. 2: You have no idea what you're going to write about. Despite your best efforts, you can't seem to come up with anything to write about. You walk back and forth, repeatedly smashing your head against your laptop screen, etc. A lack of inspiration may be to blame. It's also possible that you're lacking motivation to write. You may have no idea what you're talking about. Or perhaps you've hit a wall and can't get out of it. As previously said, bad writing is a more pressing concern than the act of actually writing anything at all. In the absence of any actual writing, how can you judge whether yours is bad?
No. 3: It's all a matter of perspective. You've decided that writing isn't your strong suit. You despise writing. You're thinking about something else. We, as writers, operate on a cerebral level. Nobody cares until they actually read the piece you've created. So, why bother if no one is watching, listening, relating to your work, or expecting you to create content? That's what a portion of our brain keeps telling us, and unfortunately, you can't seem to get past it.

No. 4: You're not a writer. As a result, every writing assignment you receive makes you feel compelled to resent it. You don't just dislike writing on the subject; you despise writing altogether! Furthermore, you view it as a necessary evil rather than a fun or educational experience because it's not part of your primary work tasks.
No. 5: You won’t or don’t ask for help. You know that you need assistance, but your pride won't let you ask for it. People who appreciate writing can't assist you because you're so hung up on your dislike of it. People who are eager and qualified to assist you can be found in a wide range of situations, but you don’t realize help is nearby. Writing may be a daunting endeavor, and the prospect of doing it on your own can make it feel like an impossible chore, rather than one you are capable of handling and possibly even doing well.
No. 6: You overcomplicate the task of writing. At the very least, you're probably one of those individuals who obsess over everything, especially when it comes to something you dislike, such as writing. You may be able to write good content for your blogs, social media, and websites if you're competent, or even a little above average. Even if you're an experienced writer or researcher, it's not always necessary for every piece to be a masterpiece. Often, a blend of educational and amusing content as well as authenticity is all that's required. When you sit down to write, you feel as if you have to create a literary masterpiece every time you have to do so. Nothing could be further from the truth, yet in your mind, everything you write must be flawless.
So really, does your writing suck? I don’t know and, honestly, you don’t know either! Because you are preventing yourself from even writing one sentence. You are your biggest challenge. You may very well be a good writer, possibly a great one. However, the above previously mentioned obstacles are barriers of your own making. Until you remove those barriers, you won’t write a thing. Therefore, you can’t grade or evaluate your writing ability because the world has nothing to judge you on. How many points can you score in a basketball game? Well, it goes without saying that you have to get into the game and play it to find out. Likewise, when it comes to writing, you have to simply follow the example of Nike and JUST DO IT. There is no substitute for writing, except, ummmm WRITING! I am willing to bet your paycheck (not mine, of course LOL) that most of you reading this are better writers than you think. Many of you are likely above average, and a few of you are even great. My advice is to just write like no one is reading it. Get your thoughts on paper ASAP and worry about editing them later. Of course, this assumes you already know what you are writing about, of course. So the next time you are faced with a writing assignment, just do it and you’ll likely be pleased with your results, especially the more you do it. Let me conclude by giving you a definitive answer regarding your writing. It’s likely your writing doesn’t suck, but your confidence in your writing does. You likely have the ability to write competently, but how you prepare to write stinks. So yes, you suck, but your writing likely doesn’t. LOL
