Hello there!
Welcome to my latest newsletter! As we approach World Mental Health Day on 10 October, it’s the perfect moment to reflect on how well we’re supporting mental health in our workplaces. The mental health conversation has evolved rapidly, and in 2024, it's not just a ‘nice-to-have’—it's a necessity. Employees today expect more than just a paycheck; they want to know that their employers genuinely care about their wellbeing and that managers are equipped to offer meaningful support.
As Mark Twain wisely said, "Worrying is like paying a debt you don’t owe."
In today’s workplace, stress and burnout can feel like that unnecessary debt—one that drains energy and productivity. So, how can you free your team from that burden and ensure a healthier, more resilient workplace?
Why Mental Health is a Priority in 2024
Mental health challenges are costing businesses more than ever. In the UK alone, 70 million workdays are lost each year due to stress, depression, and anxiety. Hybrid working and increased workplace pressures make burnout more prevalent than ever. In fact, 77% of employees report experiencing burnout, which seriously impacts productivity and retention.
As the Labour government implements new legislation requiring employers to offer working from home where feasible, businesses must be ready to address the mental health challenges of remote and hybrid teams.

Real-World Success: Supporting Synetiq, Hull University, and Bonhams Auctioneers
I’ve worked with companies like Synetiq, Hull University, and Bonhams Auctioneers in the past year. We provided Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to equip their staff with tools to identify and address mental health concerns. At Hull University, we also delivered sessions on Suicide Awareness and The Road to Resilience, helping their team handle stress and burnout more effectively.
These companies are now leading the way in supporting their teams, creating cultures where employees feel comfortable discussing mental health and seeking help when needed.
