Is your workplace Menopause-friendly?
Wondering how to support your employees and what a menopause policy is?
And how workplaces can bring this all together to create an inclusive workplace that meets the needs of the ever-increasing population of menopausal women?
We’ve broken it down into 5 steps to creating a menopause-friendly workplace:
1.Provide employees with the opportunity to learn about menopause.
During the menopausal transition, women often feel like they no longer understand what is happening to their bodies. By educating employees of all ages about menopause, you will provide your staff with the tools to be able to advocate for their own health.
2.Create channels for support (and make sure that staff know about them)
Many menopausal women do not know where to turn to for support in their work environment. By providing training and development for members of staff you can have a designated point of contact to go to for advice and support, making sure no one is left feeling isolated.
3. Adopt a flexible work and menopause leave policy
During the menopausal transition, not only are sleep, concentration and mental health affected but it also comes at a time when women are often taking on more care roles in their personal lives. Recognising the impact these may have and having a flexible working and leave policy can be crucial for helping menopausal women perform better at work.

4. Partner with a specialised provider who can deliver menopause care.
For some women, menopause can be relatively uneventful but for others, this can be an extremely turbulent time. Part of being an inclusive employer is recognising that each individual may need different levels of support.
5. Formalise this into a menopause policy
By adopting a menopause policy in your workplace, not only do set yourself apart from other employers by recognising menopause as a reproductive health issue but employees are now aware of exactly what support is at their disposal.?
